Since we are coming upon the season of Easter and Passover, the spring celebrations, which days should Christians keep to honor God?
Easter is not founded in the Bible and God's Holy days were given to all mankind forever.
Which ones should be significant in our lives based on scripture? Or does it even matter to God?

This is my personal take on this. My husband and I celebrate Resurrection Sunday and remember Good Friday. I have a flag with a picture of the empty tomb on it with the words "He Arose!" We do not celebrate the Easter Bunny or anything like that. Resurrection Sunday is ALL about Jesus' victory over death, hell, the grave!

Something to take into consideration when talking about days. Are we thankful for each day or do we see them as just "every day" things?

The Bible says in 2 Corinthians 4:15-16 (NKJV) 15 For all things are for your sakes, that grace, having spread through the many, may cause thanksgiving to abound to the glory of God. 16 Therefore we do not lose heart. Even though our outward man is perishing, yet the inward man is being renewed day by day.

I believe that we should see each day as special, but there is cause to celebrate on Resurrection Sunday! Cause to celebration on Christmas Day!

I don't really know how God sees things, but I think He might see our excitement and smile. The Bible says He sings over us. Would He not smile at us, too?

My thoughts. I hope these help a bit.

What concerns me is that over time traditional Christianity has laid aside the Holy days observed in the Bible, both the Old Testament and the New testament in favor of its own holidays.
God established His " Feasts of the Lord " in Lev 23.- He revealed what they were and how to keep them. And they were to be kept forever and ever.
In the New Testament we see Jesus and the apostles keeping God's original Holydays. The apostles kept them many years after Christ returned to heaven and took those same feast days like Passover and Tabernacles.and brought them to the gentiles as well.
Historians show that Easter and days like christmas are man made traditions . Even though they may have good intentions they are not ordained by God. And only God can make something holy- Mark 7:6-9.
God's Holydays In the new Testament are more meaningful than in the Old Testament and are celebrated in a different manner with Christ as our sacrificial lamb.
Over the centuries pagan traditions crept into the early Christian churches and slowly integrated into God's sacred days and substituted God's instructions on how to worship Him with their principles and customs.
Who do you want to please?

Mark 2:27; Jesus said to them, "The Sabbath was made for man, and not man for the Sabbath.
It seems the Sabbath is a day of freedom, to rest if we want, but also to work if we want to. Even Jesus and the disciples worked on the Sabbath.
Mark 2:23; And it happened that He was passing through the grainfields on the Sabbath, and His disciples began to make their way along while picking the heads of grain.
Mark 2:24; The Pharisees were saying to Him, "Look, why are they doing what is not lawful on the Sabbath?" ( Matt 12:1-2; John 7:22-23; )

Jesus healed on the Sabbath. More than once. Did he sin? ( Luke 6:6-9; Luke 13:10-16; )
Mark 3:2; They were watching Him to see if He would heal him on the Sabbath, so that they might accuse Him.
Mark 3:3; He *said to the man with the withered hand, "Get up and come forward!"
Mark 3:4; And He *said to them, "Is it lawful to do good or to do harm on the Sabbath, to save a life or to kill?" But they kept silent.
Mark 3:5; After looking around at them with anger, grieved at their hardness of heart, He *said to the man, "Stretch out your hand." And he stretched it out, and his hand was restored.

Jesus preached on the Sabbath. So are preachers, actually working on the Sabbath?
Mark 1:21; They *went into Capernaum; and immediately on the Sabbath He entered the synagogue and began to teach. ( Mark 6:2; Luke 4:16; Luke 13:10; )

Col 2:16; Therefore no one is to act as your judge in regard to food or drink or in respect to a festival or a new moon or a Sabbath day--

Personally, I think too much is made of this. Some Holidays had pagan beginnings. So what? Should we stop celebrating the birth of Jesus?
Should we stop celebrating the resurrection of Jesus?

Christ Jesus did not command us to keep any specific holy days. We are commanded to partake of Holy Communion with Him though, Paul said as oft as needed, which means as often as we feel the need. So even that does not involve keeping a certain day. Sunday became the Christian sabbath because of the time of Christ's resurrection on Sunday, which is why that became a Christian 'tradition'.

Easter was originally a pagan day which converts brought over into Christianity centuries ago. In Acts 12:4 in the KJV, the word "Easter" there in the Greek is actually pascha meaning 'passover'. Yet the Easter name replaced that idea of passover in Christian tradition.

It's apparent to me (maybe not with others here) that our Lord Jesus did not put the keeping of holy days upon us for The New Covenant because the danger of it becoming like the Old Covenant with how man likes to play religion to outwardly appear holy. He freed us from the religious ordinances of the Old Covenant per Colossians 2. If one feels the need to keep a certain day of the week to serve as a weekly sabbath, nothing wrong with that, but we aren't to make a religion out of it, because that's what the Old Covenant bondage did. Likewise with Easter or Passover or any of the old feast days.

The following Scripture from God through His prophet Hosea was to the ten-tribed "house of Israel" with Ephraim as its head tribe after God had split old Israel into 2 separate kingdoms, and the northern kingdom of Israel had played the spiritual harlot against Him, and He scattered them out of the holy land to among the Gentiles...

Hosea 2:4-11
4 And I will not have mercy upon her children; for they be the children of whoredoms.
5 For their mother hath played the harlot: she that conceived them hath done shamefully: for she said, I will go after my lovers, that give me my bread and my water, my wool and my flax, mine oil and my drink.
6 Therefore, behold, I will hedge up thy way with thorns, and make a wall, that she shall not find her paths.

God is speaking of the children of the northern "kingdom of Israel", put for the ten tribes under Ephraim at Samaria. They had turned to Baal worship instead, so God cast them out of His sight. And during their scattering He is showing that He would hedge up their paths they took from the holy lands, so they would not find their way back once they realized how much better they had it before being scattered out of the holy lands.

7 And she shall follow after her lovers, but she shall not overtake them; and she shall seek them, but shall not find them: then shall she say, I will go and return to my first husband; for then was it better with me than now.
8 For she did not know that I gave her corn, and wine, and oil, and multiplied her silver and gold, which they prepared for Baal.
9 Therefore will I return, and take away my corn in the time thereof, and my wine in the season thereof, and will recover my wool and my flax given to cover her nakedness.
10 And now will I discover her lewdness in the sight of her lovers, and none shall deliver her out of Mine hand.

Indeed the ten tribes were scattered to Assyria and the lands of the Medes, and then further through the countries, where she would have the full Baal worship she had fallen into. By this the ten tribes became known as the ten lost tribes.

11 I will also cause all her mirth to cease, her feast days, her new moons, and her sabbaths, and all her solemn feasts.
(KJV)

The ten tribes scattered among the Gentiles thus would forget their Israelite heritage of the feasts and holy days. The Jews of the southern "kingdom of Judah" which were not part of this would not forget those feasts and holy days. But these ten tribes scattered among the Gentiles became as Gentiles, losing their Israelite heritage. Some of you Gentiles here are probably descended from those ten scattered tribes of Israel and don't even know it.

So has God forever ended His feast and holy days? No. We all... will be commanded to keep and honor them when He returns. And I mean only the ones He said for His people to keep and not those commanded by men's traditions.

Religious leaders, like the Pharisees, added a lot of man-made prohibitions and restrictions for the Sabbath making it a burden trying to keep it .

They took the definition of work to a level of extremeness with strict enforcement. Some people were afraid to leave their homes on that day lest they slip up and sin.

The 4th Commandment told us what we should not do on the Sabbath

Jesus came to show us what we could do. It was alright to do good on the Sabbath.

It was alright to heal someone on the Sabbath and it was alright to gather food to eat for yourself-they weren't harvesting just plucking to feed themselves.

Since Jesus never sinned He never broke the Sabbath Commandment in any way.

He restored it to its original purpose- a day of blessing and worshiping and rest.

In Mark 2:28 Jesus calls Himself Lord of the Sabbath.

In Matt 5:17 - Jesus said He did not come to destroy the law but to fulfill it-by demonstrating and setting the example for us to follow.

We are commanded to keep the Holy days FOREVER.

Passover for example Ex 12:14

Feast of Unleavened Bread Ex12:17

The Day of Atonement Lev 16:31 and so on

Israels generations are still continuing - lost or found-you might be one of them.

In Numbers !5:14-15 -we see Israelites and gentiles must follow these everlasting Laws in like manner.

Jesus Christ was the one who commanded the observances in the OT. Jesus said He was the " I AM " from the OT.

And in the NT He told us to follow in His steps and do what He does.

and Jesus kept the kept the Feast days along with the Apostles.

He taught us how to worship inwardly-the spiritual aspect of the Law-from the heart.

In addition, wasn't Hosea's message primarily for Israel in the end time and the feast days mentioned were the types of blended traditions we see today?

The 4th Commandment told us what we should not do on the Sabbath

It is the only one of the 10 commandments not repeated in the New Testament.

Should we still observe passover and the feast of unleavened bread? Does it still apply to us?
Some on TJ believe the old laws never applied to Gentiles (I am not one f them). (Exod 12:48-49; Num 9:14; ) (which explain some of the laws of passover to non-Israelites)
Still Jesus took care of all these things for us. Observing many of the things in Jewish tradition, such as the passover which started
with the angel of death passing over houses, to see if blood was on the doors of the houses, or else the first born sons would die. Do we still need to practice this,
or is Jesus' blood enough to take care of this?

How about Rosh Hashana? It's not really a religious holiday.

How about Yom Kippur? Or did Jesus take care of our atonement? Wouldn't celebrating this be the same as saying the Messiah hasn't come yet?

How about Channukah? Should we celebrate the Jewish temple? Or are we as Christians the temple (church body) of Christ?

How about Sukkot? The feast of Unleavened bread? (Passover) The feast of harvest? (Similar to Thanksgiving)
The feast of weeks, the feast of booths?

Should we be celebrating the old covenant, or the new covenant? ( 1 Cor 5:7-8; )

No, it was not only a Message for Israel, nor was it just for in the latter days only. See Romans 9 where Paul quoted from Hosea to Gentiles in Christ's Church also. Hosea 2:11 was about God removing knowledge of Israel's feasts and holy days from the ten lost tribe's memory once they were scattered among the Gentiles. The "house of Israel" under Ephraim is who that Hosea Message was primarily to in Hosea's days, but it contains a blessing also about them included with the believing Gentiles in final, which is why Apostle Paul quoted it to the Church in Romans.

The gist of it for today is how God would scatter the majority of the seed of Israel among the Gentiles and then specifically send His Son to them with The Gospel, which is what especially happened after He was rejected in Jerusalem.

Per archaeological artifacts involving the ten tribe's location in captivity and later identity through the Assyrian tablets, the majority of them migrated into Asia Minor and Europe where The Gospel of Jesus Christ was first accepted on national scales, Great Britain being the first nation to do so, and thus ending the Baalism they had fallen away for (although some still latch onto it in some semi-secret initiatic fraternities in the West today).

Anthropology well knows that the majority of the latter nations of Asia Minor and Europe were founded by the groups of Cimmerians and Scythians that migrated there from the east. What they have failed to understand though is where all those Cimmerian and Scythian tribes originally came from, since they know they were not of those eastern nations like Assyria and Persia. The Cimmerian name link to the ten tribes captive in ancient Assyria was discovered by professor Leroy Waterman of the University of Michigan in translation of some of the Assyrian tablets of what the Assyrians called some of the leaders of the ten tribes, like king Omri over the northern ten tribes of Israel. His name appears on the Assyrian Black Oblelisk with Jehu paying tribute. The Assyrians referred to the ten tribes as the house of Omri ('Bit-Khumri') which in Assyrian was the word Khumri. They were also known as Gimira while in Assyria which Waterman directly translated to Cimmerian from the tablets (see Waterman's Royal Correspondence of The Assyrian Empire, 1930).

What this shows is that God did not forget His chosen people of the Israelite ten tribes, as they became the founders of the western nations. That's why there's quite a bit of Old Testament Bible prophecy about their latter history and why God's Message through Hosea would also involve the believing Gentiles they were cast among. So truly God's promises to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob (Israel), did continue, not with the Jews in Jerusalem but with the scattered ten tribes among the Gentiles where they migrated to in the Christian west. And then from there they would take The Gospel to the four corners of the earth.

Sabbath keeping was repeated constantly throughout the NT

Jesus, as was His custom, kept the Sabbath -Luke 4:16

In Acts 17:2, Acts 18:4 Paul observed the Sabbath as was his custom, with the Jews and gentiles.

Nowhere in the Bible does God ever say not to keep His Sabbath.

Jesus lived and taught in a Sabbath keeping society-there was never a conflict when to keep it

Not even mentioning it shows that is was accepted by all and was not necessary to reiterate.

Jewish celebrations, like our thanksgiving, are kept in addition to God's commanded feast days.

These days are in harmony with Paul's saying " give thanks always to God for all things " Eph 5:20

They do not replace or distort the meaning of a festival of God as do some pagan rooted traditions.

But Hosea did have a dual application-the immediate danger of captivity but also foretold the end time punishments ahead for us in the end time. We meaning the end-time remains of the House of Israel.. Ephraim is one of the lost ten tribes-Great Britain. And the United States is seen as Manasseh as one of the other lost tribes who were promised great power and wealth. I agree with what you are saying.

So our Lord Jesus taught that if we miss just one Sabbath keeping we're going to hell? Colossians 2:14-16 refers to all holy days, which includes sabbaths.

Jesus always talked repentance so no one would have to perish.

In Col 2:14-16 -I see Paul as countering a local heresy, and in doing so he is actually confirming the keeping of the Holy days as a foreshadow of things to come.

The focus of God's feast days and sabbaths are on the future, relating God's plan for mankind directly to the commission Christ gave His church.

Paul was warning the Colossians not to be influenced by false teachers objections to rejoicing on feast days, sabbaths and new moons by eating, and drinking.

The point is that the deceivers disdained feasting and celebrating for enjoyment.

The Colossian heretics had no authority to judge or determine how the Colossians were to observe God's festivals.

There is nothing in this passage that mentions God's holy days should be abolished as some people claim.

Paul was defending the rights of the Christians to enjoy feasting and celebrating at God's holy festivals

That's a huge load of malarkey.

God's Holy days that were proclaimed in the OT are connected with the events of Christ's redemptive work and the plan of God for all mankind much more than any of the
days we see the present day churchs observe like easter and christmas.
for example the Passover reminds us that Christ our Passover is sacrificed for us in the NT-1Cor 5:7
also the Feast of Unleavened Bread, a celebration for the Israelites of deliverance from the bondage of Egypt, for us in the NT church is a celebration of our deliverance from the bondage of sin - 1Cor5:8
God's feast days today have far greater more meaning for Christians than they ever had for the people of Israel.
Does it make sense that Jesus would have established His church and then left without special days for commemorating and celebrating events significant to Christianity.
remember easter and xmas did not come from the bible but were mandated by man, something forbidden by God.

Your personal interpretation of the Colossians 2:13-17 Scripture of course.[/QUOTE

I thought I did in post 14.

But I know people use this to reject God's Holy days but nowhere does it specifically say that.

In fact the criticism the Colossians were receiving about their observances proves they were keeping God's holy days.

How could they be criticized with regard to days they were not keeping.

The Colossians never kept the holydays before-they were heathens before Paul converted them.

Paul is warning them not to return to their old pagan ways.
Paul is saying no one should criticize or judge you in regards to your new Christian behavior

Passover was held by Christians in the Post-Apostolic time.

Jesus and the Apostles maintained the Passover and they had no part in what Christians celebrate today as easter.-

It doesn't take more than 5 minutes to find the origin of easter on the internet-there are hundreds of references from established authorities and theologians.

can you spare 5 mins? -" And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free " John 8:32
