New Century Version (NCV)

16 It will save you from the unfaithful wife
who tries to lead you into adultery with pleasing words.

My thoughts.

Honesting is the center block of a marriage and can keep one from comiting adultery.

I wasn't aware that there's the "New Century Version" of Bible already.

This text is so far different from the KJV for example it gives an entirely different reading. Can any scholar here offer any justification this rendering?

@brakelite

The New Century Version is a modern translation its making was aimed at people with low reading skills

In my opinion it is a corrupt deceptive modern version of the Bible that changes the context of many many scriptures

@clark thompson
Look into this Clark, it is good that you want to share your thoughts on Proverbs.....but prayerfully consider the version of Bible that you are using.

Greetings Clark

I just came back as I wanted you to know that I had no intention of condemning you personally in my last post.....just the version of the Bible used.

I think a study in Proverbs is excellent, such wise instructions for life, and I pray that the Lord richly blesses you as you study His word.

When wisdom entereth into thine heart, and knowledge is pleasant unto thy soul;
Discretion shall preserve thee, understanding shall keep thee:
To deliver thee from the way of the evil man, from the man that speaketh froward things;
Who leave the paths of uprightness, to walk in the ways of darkness;
Who rejoice to do evil, and delight in the frowardness of the wicked;
Whose ways are crooked, and they froward in their paths:
To deliver thee from the strange woman, even from the stranger which flattereth with her words;
Which forsaketh the guide of her youth, and forgetteth the covenant of her God.
Proverbs 2:10-17

KJV
To deliver thee from the strange woman, even from the stranger which flattereth with her words;

This verse, taken in context, is talking about the benefits of wisdom, knowledge and understanding

It is not a study it is a simple thought after one scripture therefore I use a simple text and NCV is one of the most easy to read bible translations out there today.

Interesting my brother, thanks. Below is a comparative of different translations on this verse in multiple "flavors" of the Bible:

Proverbs 2:16

(ABP+) G3588 [3to be farG3112 2youG1473 1to cause]G4160 fromG575 [2wayG3598 1 the straight],G2117 andG2532 alienG245 G3588 of a righteousG1342 design.G1106 O son,G5207 you should not letG3361 [3overtake youG1473 G2638 1badG2556 2counsel],G1012

(ASV) To deliver thee from the strange woman, Even from the foreigner that flattereth with her words;

(BBE) To take you out of the power of the strange woman, who says smooth words with her tongue;

(Brenton) to remove thee far from the straight way, and to estrange thee from a righteous purpose. My son, let not evil counsel overtake thee,

(CEV) Wisdom will protect you from the smooth talk of a sinful woman,

(Darby) To deliver thee from the strange woman, from the stranger who flattereth with her words;

(DRB) That thou mayst be delivered from the strange woman, and from the stranger, who softeneth her words;

(ERV) Wisdom will save you from that other woman, another man's wife, who tempts you with sweet words.

(ESV) So you will be delivered from the forbidden woman, from the adulteress with her smooth words,

(GNB) You will be able to resist any immoral woman who tries to seduce you with her smooth talk,

(GW) Wisdom will also save you from an adulterous woman, from a loose woman with her smooth talk,

(ISV) delivering you from the adulteress, from the immoral woman with her seductive words,

(JPS) To deliver thee from the strange woman, even from the alien woman that maketh smooth her words;

(KJV) To deliver thee from the strange woman, even from the stranger which flattereth with her words;

(KJV+) To deliverH5337 thee from the strange woman,H4480 H802 H2114 even from the strangerH4480 H5237 which flatterethH2505 with her words;H561

(LITV) these will deliver you from the strange woman, from the foreigner who flatters with her words,

(MKJV) They will deliver you from the strange woman, the stranger who flatters with her words,

(RV) To deliver thee from the strange woman, even from the stranger which flattereth with her words;

(Webster) To deliver thee from the strange woman, even from the stranger who flattereth with her words;

(YLT) To deliver thee from the strange woman, From the stranger who hath made smooth her sayings,

Interesting that the Holy Spirit would advise all God's children, well men anyway, that when in the presence of a strange woman who knows the art of flattery, we are in the need of deliverance. Says a lot about mans' ego huh! Oh, and that deliverance can come by way of an alert wife.
