" I feel sorrowful even unto death. " These are the words of Jesus Christ before he went into the garden of Gethsemane. Many people claim that this was Jesus showing fear of what was about to happen to Him. What do you think it means?

I think because of the LORD He had for others !No one stood by Him or cared enough to obey HIM ! He told the others to pray and they slept !
Also He hated sin ,much more than any of us do ! He had obeyed the Holy Ghost from a baby and had never sinned! Now He must take on the sins of this world ! Every evil and vile thing mankind had done! As if He did it All ! How sad is that !
Listen Mankind has done evil beyond anything any of us even know ? Yet Jesus knew it and had too accept it as HIS OWN !

HE LOVED YOU that much and me and All mankind !
Yet i guess HE knew also ? Many would not turn too Him even after a ife of suffering here and the sacrifice of His live giving blood and body !

Even We who have accepted His free Gift of salvation ! show little Love and mercy at times and even disobey HIm at times ?

Gee HIS LOVE is far beyond our noamal understanding ! We Only live a moment in time here 1 Yet cannot seem to live this moment for Him 100% Still He forgives and LOVES!

this is actually the best answer i have ever heard on this question and i agree with you whole heartedly. i believe that it was at that point he felt true emptiness in his soul because God put the sins of the world on his heart and had to turn away from his own son until it was all complete. for the first time Jesus knew sin yet had never sinned and learned what it was like to feel the despair that we feel with out the connection with His Father.

Not in fear...in terror. Jesus was in terror about the death He was going to suffer. So much so that He sweated blood, which can only happen under extreme stress. Some think Jesus's suffering started on the cross.. no it started in the Garden of Gethsemane. Mankind rebelled against God in a garden of pleasure (Eden) whereas the Savior chose to do God's will in a garden of suffering.

Matthew Henry Commentary:
"The words used denote the most entire dejection, amazement, anguish, and horror of mind; the state of one surrounded with sorrows, overwhelmed with miseries, and almost swallowed up with terror and dismay. He now began to be sorrowful, and never ceased to be so till he said, It is finished."

terror, i do not believe that it was terror. i agree he was stressed. i think there is more than fear and terror here.
