Just to add a little to papajim's question, allow me to explain some of prophetic symbolism related to this.
A woman in prophecy represents a church, either true or false. See Jer.6:2 (Isa 51:16); 2 Cor. 11:2; Jer. 3:14; Isa. 54:4-6; Hosea 2:19,20; Ezek.16; Jer. 3:20; James 4:4; now relate all that to the following... Revelation 12; and Revelation 17:1-6.

A beast represents a major kingdom or political superpower,or an empire...never an individual although the political power may be led by an individual. The horns which grow from the beast represent those political rulers, kings, or sovereigns within the empire, or the kings who succeed to and share power within the empire .Daniel 7:16,17; Daniel 7:23; Daniel 8:20,21. now relate that to Revelation 13, and to Revelation 17. The picture of the woman riding the beast when viewed from the symbolic rules set out within scripture (Bible explaining itself) makes the vision quite easy to understand. A church riding the civil power, ruling over it, guiding it, holding the reins...while the civil power upholds the church, supports her, gives her her strength, enacts her laws and fights on her behalf. Now compare that scenario with history, and you have the perfect picture of the RCC throughout her history. A union of church and state (one aspect of the pagan tradition she inherited from Rome, and in turn inherited down through the ages from ancient Babylon. ...something the American forefathers recognised and sought to avoid at all costs because of the corruptions and persecutions etc that result. Pity the modern day American people no longer recognise this and are attempting to break down those church/state barriers.

I have seen that thought many times, and was one of the reasons I started the thread "Were they right"? For another perspective on that topic and for some sound Biblical and historical reasons why I amconvinced that the antichrist is in fact extrememly religious and far from atheistic, might I suggest you read that. Appreciate however it is not a short thread now, but you will find enough information in the first few pages to give grounds for a rethink on your suggestion above.

Do not disagree with the assessment of the RCC.
But where does Islam fit into the equation, it is the biggest religion in the World.
It sheds the blood of the saints like the RCC. Although the RCC no longer kills.
Islam believes it is the true faith, the true bride of God just as the RCC does.
It is absolutely opposed to Christianity lock, stock, and barrel.
It already has a temple on the temple mount in Jerusalem!
It is not related to Christianity except in the first five books of the O.T.
I sometimes wonder if the temple of Islam in Jerusalem is where the A.C is seated?

Yes, Islam is an aspect to eschatology that gives us all pause for thought. I do believe however that we underestimate the power of God when it comes to Islam. Many are true descendants of Abraham, and are also covenant people. And if you have any doubts as to whether such can be forgiven and find God's mercy, just read the book of Jonah and see the lengths God is willing to go to to extend His mercy and grace to even the worst of Israel's enemies. You think that modern Islam is any worse than was Niniveh?
DHC, In Revelation 13:2 we read: "and the dragon gave him his power, and his seat, and great authority." Now DHC, who is the dragon; what earthly political power was he using to pass on this authority; and who was the power that received it, inherited the throne, and is now exercising his power from that seat?

Cruelty greed for power selfishness bitterness hatred and all are still with us and the reformers did nothing at all but only carry on with a unreliable deceptive show that fools only the dilettante. it surprises me the lengths that prot's will go to undermine the RCC with total utter slandering rubbish. Satan is at work in all slander.
I was a prot and was so angered at the RCC that i looked deeper in to what the RCC are on about but my fellow prots did not want me to seek for myself and i found what they said about the RCC was just a lot of slandering gobbledygook.
I am not a RC and they and most Christians are so easy lead astray, just look around you Christianity is failing and some are so brain washed as to look to the Jews for salvation. by elevating a degenerate people who reject Christ as something to look up to when they are apposed to Christianity and Christ full on.

Hi Puddlegum, I do understand your concern and frustration, it also appears to me that people love to hate even in professed christianty, but I assure you christianity is not failing only professed christianity is. I myself will oppose systems, but not people. I believe God has people in every denomination wether Catholic or Protestant and we should never judge each other. I believe that love does not judge, saying this, we should be careful that we do not fall into a satanic state of judging as well, but always show the love of God towards others, and esteem every man better than ourselves. If we do this there will be no judging on our part. I also believe that we should not look to any denomination for guidence, Jesus said "I am the way, the truth and the life" and that is where we are to continuesley focus. Denominations will rise and fall, but Christ will never and has never fallen, if we keep our eyes on Him, He will lift us up unto Himself and by beholding Him we will become like Him, and we will be a peculiar people unlike the things in others that we hate. Let these the things as "curelty, greed for power, selfishness, bitterness, and hatred, be a lesson to us of what we are not to be, so that we can represent our saviour as He is.

I am on about the cold or lukewarm and this is the problem as well as they who happily lie for some reason or are ignorantly stubborn and not willing to seek or are just to feeble or gullible.
One can judge you know, especially when you have been at their position and now know better.
I would say that most of the christian worlds problems are just because of the lukewarm position of they who do not truly know Jesus, for who he really is. for if they knew we would not be in the position we are in now. today's christians are a weak fickle mob of lovers of idolatry, not all mind ? but most are, as i see it every where. even to go around after church and talk about Christ and the people will not want to talk about Christ at all or have better things to do, like talk about their dog or garden etc. but love to hear gossip.
Tell someone the govenment is working to undermine and trying to be driving Christianity out and this lot are worshiping socialist idiolatry, that puts this lot in the position of telling the nation what to do, not the people telling the gov. and O bagging Christianity as just being out dated foolish rubbish and all. and get away with it without a problem at all.
Who puts this lot back in their place. we have a atheist running our nation ! it's a fool !
It's like Hitlers coming and we go O well what ever !

The beast and the harlot are two separate kingdoms in the book of Revelations.

The harlot is the RCC, and her children are the churches descended from her.

The beast rules another kingdom altogether, that is why the beast is able to attack the harlot.

16 And the ten horns which you saw, and the beast, these will hate the harlot and will make her desolate and naked,
and will eat her flesh and will burn her up with fire. (Revelations 17)

Islam is growing at a rate, four times the rate of the growth of Christianity worldwide.

Islam has a temple on the temple mount ready for the antichrist.

Islam hates Christianity, Islam does and will wage war against Christianity.

Islam will attack the RCC, "these will hate the harlot".

There is no comparison between Nivenah and Islam brakelite.
