Church on Rock not on Peter


Matthews 16:13-19


13 When Jesus came into the region of Caesarea Philippi, He asked His disciples, saying,
“Who do men say that I, the Son of Man, am?”

14 So they said, “Some say John the Baptist, some Elijah, and others Jeremiah or one of the prophets.”

15 He said to them, “But who do you say that I am?”

16 Simon Peter answered and said, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.”

17 Jesus answered and said to him, “Blessed are you, Simon Bar-Jonah,
for flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but My Father who is in heaven.

18 And I also say to you that you are Peter, and on this rock
I will build My church, and the gates of Hades shall not prevail against it.

19 And I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven,
and whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven,
and whatever you loose on earth will be loosedin heaven.”

Some churches belief that Jesus builds the church on peter.
The further explanation was that the meaning of peter is petros or petra
which means rock, upon that rock Jesus build the church.

I am not saying Jesus did not build the church on a rock, what I want to establish is that Jesus did not build the church upon peter.

Shall we take the verse in steps using true or falseto each.
Verse 14, so they said, some say John the Baptist, false (Jesus is not John)
Some said Elijah,false
Some said Jeremiah false

Some said one of the prophets
false


Verse 15, Jesus said to them, “But who do you say that I am?”

Verse 16, Simon Peter answered and said, you are the Christ, the Son of the living GodTrue

Verse 17-18, Jesus answered and said to him, “Blessed are you, Simon Bar-Jonah, for flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but My Father who is in heaven.
18 And I also say to you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build My church, and the gates of Hades shall not prevail against it.

Note:
peter’s report was the only true report, other reports were false report,
So Jesus was saying to Peter. Upon this true confession
I shall build my Church and the gate if hades will not overcome it.

Jesus build the Church upon the truth that Jesus is Lord not peter.
(The truth is the Rock that cannot be broken)

Great to see this my brother.

The true church is the ONE BODY in CHRIST.
Church is where ever our faith is, and the fellowship is done through the spreading of HIS word to others by each believer.

Yet, those who are brought to know this much must have patience for the level of faith others are in.
Everyone is in a specific process and given specific gifts in the ONE BODY; so we must do all things in love of CHRIST.

Process and understanding of those that need fellowship in the church building and those that don't:
1 CORINTHIANS 7:7-9
For I wish that all men were even as I myself.
But each one has his own gift from God, one in this manner and another in that. But I say to the unmarried and to the widows: It is good for them if they remain even as I am; but if they cannot exercise self-control, let them marry. For it is better to marry than to burn with passion.


I pray all have a spiritual eye when reading what GOD is saying through Paul there.
It's crucial to understand why there are those in the church buildings and there are those who are the walking church.
There are two different specific needs there, but both are towards the LORD.
THose that just want the LORD ( like a eunuch, or gift of celibacy) they are most likely to be the walking church; making fellowship where ever they go.
Others that need to be married and have a lust of the flesh and focus on this before they do GOD, then they will most likely be in a church building.
Neither one is better than another.
But the reasoning is very obvious if the person reading has a spiritual eye and heart of love in CHRIST!


There will be others walking in the ONE BODY ( true church) using JESUS name as well.
Regardless of what level of faith GOD has them, we treat them as our brothers/sisters:
MARK 9:38-41
And John answered him, saying, Master, we saw one casting out devils in thy name, and he followeth not us: and we forbad him, because he followeth not us.
But Jesus said, Forbid him not: for there is no man which shall do a miracle in my name, that can lightly speak evil of me.
For he that is not against us is on our part.
For whosoever shall give you a cup of water to drink in my name, because ye belong to Christ, verily I say unto you, he shall not lose his reward.



But, we all must serve ( that believe in GOD through JESUS CHRIST), The commandments from JESUS no matter what:
Mark 12:29-31
And Jesus answered him, The first of all the commandments is, Hear, O Israel; The Lord our God is one Lord:
And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength: this is the first commandment.
And the second is like, namely this, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.
There is none other commandment greater than these.

and

Matthew 5:43-48
Ye have heard that it hath been said, Thou shalt love thy neighbour, and hate thine enemy.
But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you;
That ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven: for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust.
For if ye love them which love you, what reward have ye? do not even the publicans the same?
And if ye salute your brethren only, what do ye more than others? do not even the publicans so?
Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect.

This is a clearer explanation of this than others I have heard. The Rock is, of course, the Truth, and the Truth is Jesus Himself. Glory to His name!
