How to receive grace from God

The Bible says that “God resists the proud, But gives grace to the humble.” (James 4:6). So to receive grace from Jesus, we must be humble.

The meaning of “being humble” is about being humble to the Word of God by wanting to obey Him and trusting Him to settle the issues we are facing. However, the Bible says “The heart is deceitful above all things, And desperately wicked; Who can know it?” (Jeremiah 17:9)

This means that our hearts are treacherous and so both our hearts and minds will not want or allow us to be humble.

We must practice humility by calling on the Name of Jesus Christ for all our needs including our spiritual needs. We must first use the Name of Jesus Christ to command our hearts and minds and cast all our cares on Jesus Christ and to be humble.

When people are humble, do not look down on them. The Bible says that we must “Be of the same mind toward one another. Do not set your mind on high things, but associate with the humble. Do not be wise in your own opinion.” (Romans 12:16)

Sometimes, people are mistaken in thinking that humble people are cowards or ignorant. Let us not make that mistake. We must obey the command that “Let nothing be done through selfish ambition or conceit, but in lowliness of mind let each esteem others better than himself.” (Phil 2:3)

You can pray: In Jesus Name I cast out every spirit of pride and arrogance. I receive the spirit of humility and grace. I command my heart and mind and soul to be humble to the Word of God and to associate with the humble. I command my mind and heart not to be wise in my own opinion but to seek the Word of God. Lord Jesus, I want to be truly humble and receive your grace.

God bless and Peace of Christ!

Seems that maybe you have the cart before the horse here. I thought that the grace of God is a free gift just as the scriptures declare (Eph. 2:8) and that it cannot be earned.

Grace can surely never be earned, but perhaps we can better position ourselves to receive it.

Praise Jesus!

Sorry for the late reply.

The gift of salvation is from the grace of God therefore it cant be earned but can only be received humbly by sinners as it says in Ephesians 2:8-9,
8 For it is by free grace (God’s unmerited favor) that you are saved (delivered from judgment and made partakers of Christ’s salvation) through [your] faith. And this [salvation] is not of yourselves [of your own doing, it came not through your own striving], but it is the gift of God;9 Not because of works [not the fulfillment of the Law’s demands], lest any man should boast. [It is not the result of what anyone can possibly do, so no one can pride himself in it or take glory to himself.]

As it is HE who predestines, calls, justifies & glorifies (Romans 8:30: Moreover whom He predestined, these He also called; whom He called, these He also justified; and whom He justified, these He also glorified.)

After receiving HIS salvation and grace, Word of God commands us to work out our own salvation with fear and trembling (Philippians 2:12). We need to learn the word of God, be a doer of HIS word, be Christ like, put on Christ, become the salt and light, be holy and blameless. We must become a new man in Christ Jesus.
Therefore AFTER having become a born again Christian, we need more grace and mercy to become FAITHFUL, DISCIPLED and walk in the POWER of Jesus Christ as commanded by HIM. How do we do that?

James 4:6 says, "6 But He gives us more and more grace (power of the Holy Spirit, to meet this evil tendency and all others fully). That is why He says, God sets Himself against the proud and haughty, but gives grace [continually] to the lowly (those who are humble enough to receive it)."
We can only continue to receive grace (unmerited favor) by being humble. We can't pay to receive grace as it's free but we need to always be humble in mind, spirit and actions. We have to be humble to know that HE is God and we need HIM in our life. We have to be humble to recognize that we were saved by grace and humble to confess as it's written in Romans 10:9-10, that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.

As fallen nature we cannot humble ourselves but only through mercy of Jesus Christ and HIS blood we can be made humble. We have to desire to be humble and be willing to be made humble and Jesus Christ will make us humble and on top of it bless us with grace. We cannot do it on our own but only through HIM we can do all things.
