This is a fictional story. Enjoy.
A Star Named Aurora
By Jennifer Faust (G4G)
Most humans don't know this, but we stars have a school called Star University or SU. At SU, stars learn where to go in the sky at night, what to eat to keep their shape, how to be the brightest, and how to always follow orders from their elders.
This story is about a little star named Aurora. She was a very special pupil of mine. See, God told me I would have Aurora in class and also do one-on-one study outside of class with her. God had a special job for Aurora. As the Brightness Professor, I would teach her how to be the brightest star in the sky.
The first day of Brightness class for Aurora and her classmates came. Each pupil eagerly waited to be called upon to show their brightness. I kept records as the class progressed to higher brightness. The brightest stars would be loners. The others would be in constellations as older stars died off.
As I went around the class, I heard the conversations of my students. One group of girls laughed, gawked, pointed, teased, and tauted a dim, little star. A tear streamed down her cheek. I shooed the bullies away and handed the star a tissue. Her points were misshapened and her light was out. Those girls, I whispered, shaking my head.
"What is you name, my child?" I asked.
"Aurora."
"Aurora? But that means..."
"It means the dawn," she whispered.
"Yes, it does." But, God she's not even close to that brightness. Why give her that name?
God's voice spoke to me. Aurora is my creation. She is named for the dawn. I know how bright she will become. Teach her. She is unique. I never make mistakes.
"God has given me the priviledge to teach you one-on-one, Aurora. He has a special job for you. Later today, when the other stars are out, I will take you to the practice grounds in the sky and teach you of brightness."
"But Professor Luster, I'm a dim star. I can't...I can't be bright ever."
"Child, who told you this?"
"Well...others...and...and Lu..."
"Lucifer," I said. The name left my eye brows furrowed, bile rising in my mouth, and anger building up inside.
"Professor Luster?"
"Aurora, don't listen to Lucifer, the father of lies. That is what he wants you to do."
"But..."
"Come on, class will be over soon. Meet me at the entrance to the school tonight. I'll show you how to be bright and maybe even how to remember what God says about you," I said.
"God knows me?" Aurora whispered.
"Yes, child, He does." I smiled.
Aurora shrugged. She exited the room with points drooping toward the floor.
I paced back and forth at the SU gate. The sky turned dark blue and violet all around me. Soon darkness would come. "Where is she?" I wondered.
A small light in the distance moved closer and closer. I peered at it. Could it be? The light no brighter than a small flicker of a candle flame approached.
Aurora's points sagged. Her cheeks soaked with tears glistened in the starlight.
"What happened?" I asked.
"Those girls said...said I was a disgrace to stars everywhere. One said God shouldn't have created me. That I was a nothing. A shame to the bright stars of old. They said..." Aurora sobbed.
My points drooped. I put one around her. Aurora slowly composed herself. Taking the handkerchief I held out to her, she wiped her eyes and cheeks.
"Aurora, I think it is time to tell you how God sees you."
Aurora gulped. "I don't know. I mean what if He doesn't love me. What if..."
"He does, Aurora. Forget what everyone else has told you. Listen to what God has said about you." I said.
"Okay," she whispered weakly.
"Aurora, you were created for a purpose. God has a plan for you. He loves you because He created you! He hasn't forgotten you. Remember, I told you God has a special job just for you."
"I know, but I'm not worthy. I'm dim. My points aren't straight." Her points sagged lower.
"God sees you differently. Don't you see, Aurora, God sees you better than that because he loves you!"
"But Professor Luster, I can't." Tears flowed again. Aurora left. The lesson forgotten.
I knocked on the gate to Heaven. The angel on guard opened it and beckoned me inside. I hurried to the throneroom. God sat on His throne in all His splendor.
"Professor Luster," God smiled.
"Your Highness." I bowed.
"How does Aurora fare?"
"Not well, Your Majesty," I answered.
"Did you tell her what you know?" God asked.
"I told her of Your love, but the lies of the enemy have filled her with doubt and deceit. She needs to know from experience, I believe."
God nodded. He knew what I meant. "Get her ready. Tomorrow night you'll need to position her."
I bowed and exited the throneroom.
I announced the news to Aurora about tonight's mission. "I can't! I'm not bright. I'll never be bright!" She cried. "Choose someone else!"
"God doesn't work that way. He knows you can do it. Why don't you believe Him?"
Aurora sighed. "Okay. I'll go."
We arrived at the location, above Bethlehem. Below us, a stable rested. The animals bayed.
"A nice cozy spot," Aurora said.
I smiled. Okay, God. Here we are. Now what?
Aurora furrowed her brow.
What now? I wondered. I followed her gaze. A glow appeared. It moved fast and soon hung nearby.
"What are you?" Aurora asked.
"Not what, child, but who." He sparkled brightly. "I'm the Spirit of God." The glow inhaled and exhaled. He breathed a light out of Himself and it travelled towards Aurora.
Aurora trembled. "Don't. Please."
"Don't be afraid, Aurora. I will not hurt you. This is to show you the glory of God. For this isn't about you, but about God. God can and will use you if you let Him, my child.":
Aurora looked at the glow. "How do I receieve it?"
The glow said, "Open your mouth."
Aurora obeyed. The light spread throughtout her. Aurora's points straightened and she illuminated the night.
"Now, you light the sky so bright for God lives in you!" The glow danced, praising God.
Aurora beamed.
Night after night passed and Aurora's light kept shining brightly. One night, we saw an amazing sight. A man and a woman arrived at the stable.
"What is going on?" Aurora asked.
"I don't know."
An angel flew by. Aurora called out, "Mr. Angel! Mr. Angel!"
The angel turned and smiled. "Yes?"
"What is happening in the stable below on Earth?"
"Jesus is coming to mankind. He is the Messiah, the Savior of the world."
"But why?"
"Jesus is God's Son. He will take away the sins of the world."
"I don't understand," Aurora whispered.
"Jesus will die on a cross as the sacrifice to pay for man's sin. Tonight is His birth." The angel smiled.
"But why the glorious light that shines?"
"You are a sign, Aurora. You are leading the wise men from the east to the Savior."
Aurora furrowed her brow. "How do you know my name?"
"God told me about you. I'm a messenger angel. I have missions just like you."
"Help me understand."
The angel looked into Aurora's eyes. "God choose you because, like many humans, you didn't see your worth. God did. He shines through you, Aurora. He shines through everything about this night. I must go and announce the birth of Jesus to shepherds."
"Okay. Thank you, Mr. Angel."
The angel smiled and lifted into the air. "And Aurora, my name is Gabriel."
The angel flew down to Earth and into the hills. Aurora watched from above. "Why would God send His Son to die for the sins of mankind?" Aurora asked.
"Because without it, mankind would die twice. Once physically and once spiritually. God loves mankind like he loves you, Aurora."
"So much to learn."
"What is your purpose, child?" I asked.
Aurora watched the scene below. She gazed at me.
"To let God shine through me so all may see him."
I nodded. "Yes. Yes, that's right."
We continued observing as the story unfolded in the stable. The angels sang. The shepherds journeyed from the fields to the stable where the little baby, wrapped in cloths, laid in the manger.
Aurora's light flooded the stable, illuminating the inside. Aurora smiled. "It's Him," she exclaimed. Tears of joy streamed down her cheeks.
I'll never forget that night. God took Aurora who saw herself as insignificant and made her magnificant because He shone through her.
"Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven." -Matthew 5:16
