The Book of Revelation speaks of the Seven Spirits of God that are around his throne. I did a canvas of all the spirits mentioned in the bible by searching 'spirit of' in hopes of compiling a list that might make sense. The following is the conclusion I came up with considering that we are talking about his 'throne'.

  1. Spirit of Wisdom
  2. Spirit of Judgment
  3. Spirit of Grace
  4. Spirit of Truth
  5. Spirit of Holiness
  6. Spirit of Power
  7. Spirit of Glory

Jesus is said to have the seven spirits of God.

In addition to your Spirit list - would you think that in Ephesians 1:13
" ...ye were sealed with that Holy Spirit of Promise " qualifies as a Spirit quality of Jesus? There may be more.

I took that one to speak directly of the Holy Spirit.

It's also interesting we see seven evil spirits/demons mentioned several times in scripture.

7 seems to cover an entire group/type.

Here is the original list I was working from: Some are just the spirits of different men ect. It is an interesting list.

Spirit of Jacob –
Spirit of Wisdom –
Spirit of jealously –
Spirit of the Lord –
Evil spirit –
Spirit of Elihja –
Spirit of the Philistines –
Spirit of my understanding –
Spirit of princes –
A wounded spirit –
Spirit of man –
Spirit of the beast (animal)
Spirit of the ruler –
Spirit of knowledge –
Spirit of Council –
Spirit of Egypt –
Spirit of Judgment –
Spirit of deep sleep –
Spirit of the humble –
Spirit of heaviness –
A lying spirit –
Spirit of the kings –
Spirit of the living creature –
Spirit of whoredoms –
Spirit of Grace –
Spirit of an unclean devil –
Spirit of infirmity –
Spirit of truth –
Spirit of divination –
Spirit of holiness –
Spirit of life –
Spirit of bondage –
Spirit of adoption –

Spirit of meekness –
Spirit of Faith –
Spirit of Promise –
Spirit of fear –

Spirit of Christ –
Spirit of Glory –
Spirit of Antichrist –

On a similar note, have you ever considered how it says greater is he that is in you than he that is in the world? Are both to be considered indwelling?

Definitely an interesting list and makes me wonder if the "being" spirits were created for (or fell into ) a particular ability/purpose and if our iniquities are susceptible to the relevant ones.

Cool thread :shade:

I researched this topic a few months back. I found the 7 spirits of God in Isaiah 11:2

1) Spirit of Wisdom
2) Spirit of Understanding
3) Spirit of Knowledge
4) Spirit of Counsel
5) Spirit of Might
6) Spirit of Fear of The LORD
7) Spirit of The LORD

**** number 5 is Might... which is power... and the reason He is referred to as The Almighty

The way I understand it... The 7 golden candles, that are referred to as the 7 golden lamp stands in The Book of Revelation, are the menorah. (Jewish candles)

I would say, those are all qualities and particulars of God and those who follow God.

But a spirit is a living spirit, such as God, Jesus and the Holy Spirit, all the same but separate parts. This is what it says to me.

The others as in the creation of the earth and all things, God says let us create them in the image of us, not in the image of I, or me, or one.

So the others have not been revealed to us yet.

I can have spirits and qualities as presented also, from compassion to mischief to anger.

I had a bit of spirit of anger, tempered with mischief the other day, this guy behind me kept blowing his horn for me to run right at a red light. I could not see the road due to a large panel trunk on my left so I just sat there. The truck moved and went and this guy was beside himself by now, he was yelling at me, cussing me out, calling me all the names of the world, ..................So I just waved at him and sat some more.......... So mischief, compassion, honor, to help, all of us have many characteristics . God just molds them to be forgiving and bring him Glory. And Glory is a result not a spirit.

So the others have not been revealed to us. To me the Bible and the spirit tells me they are beings, a part of the whole.

The Lord has spoken by your hand this day. To expedite my understanding. Thank you for obeying his voice, brother and teaching me great wisdom.

7) Spirit of the Lord

I have been without understanding and sitting on the fence in the debate of the doctrine of the trinity. This has given me new insight. The doctrine has taken a great blow in my mind through this revelation.

All of the above mentioned spirits have been personified in scripture because they are distinct in person. The seventh being the Holy Spirit. The one who is glorified in separating a people unto God through his indwelling. Yet the Holy Spirit is of God and not the Father himself. He proceeds out from the Father as do the rest. The seven are with the Father but are not the Father. Yet Jesus being the only begotten Son of the Father whom God has laid all of these upon, it pleased God that through them Jesus might rule and reign over the Creation as Prophet, Priest and King. Exalted over every name that is in heaven and in Earth. Jesus himself being subject unto the Father through the seven spirits of God. The true Menorah of God giving light unto those whom it is given.

Can a man wrap his mind around God? Shall we not bow before him begging for insight? Shall we not cry out for his manifestation to us of his Spirit?

My knees bow in awesome wonder of his glorious wonderment.

Lord God Almighty, possessor of Heaven and Earth, in thee dwells Wisdom, Knowledge, Understanding, Council, Might, Fear and Holiness. Please send these spirits of thee into our hearts to cry out to thee and fill us with your perfection that we the church may be a reflection of you upon this Earth and rule in the darkness of night until the appearing of our glorious Lord and King. In the Holiest name of all we pray.

Amen

Hey thanks brother!

Just wanted to add these passages to this fantastic thread!!!

Rev 1:4 Grace to you, and peace from Him who is who was and who is to come, and from the 7 Spirits who are before His throne.

Rev 3:1 "...These things says He who has the 7 Spirits of God..."

Rev 4:5 ... 7 lamps of fire are burning before the throne, which are the 7 Spirits of God.

Rev 5:6 ... stood a Lamb as though it had been slain, having 7 horns & 7 eyes, which are the 7 Spirits of God...

Isaiah 11:2 There shall come forth a Rod from the stem of Jesse. And a Branch shall grow out of his roots. And the 7 Spirits shall rest upon Him.
1) wisdom 2) understanding 3) knowledge 4) counsel 5) might 6) fear 7) Spirit of The LORD

In regards to the Isaiah 11:2 passage.

When it says "there shall come forth a Rod from the stem of Jesse"
Remember that Isaiah is found in the old Testament.... This "Rod" that will have the 7 Spirits of God resting upon Him, is none other than JESUS!!!!

The stem of Jesse is found in the VERY FIRST Book of the New Testament, which is The Book of Matthew. It's the VERY FIRST thing talked about in The Book Of Matthew.

The Genealogy Of Jesus Christ
Matthew 1:5 Salmon begot Boaz by Rahab, Boaz begot Obed by Ruth, Obed begot Jesse
Matthew 1:6 and Jesse begot David the king

MAN the Bible is AWESOME!!!

Yes it is, brother. What is even more awesome is the spirit who is willing to teach us what it really means as soon as we give up our pride of trying to figure it out for ourselves and admit we cannot.

Love,

Gary

Ummm...

What?

Where can I find "the Spirit" who is willing to teach us to give up trying to understand the Bible?

Is that in Isaiah? Or The book of bologna?

The Holy Spirit. It is the gift of God.

1 Jon 1:26-27 These things have I written unto you concerning them that seduce you. But the anointing which ye have received of him abideth in you, and ye need not that any man teach you: but as the same anointing teacheth you of all things, and is truth, and is no lie, and even as it hath taught you, ye shall abide in him.

Jon 16:12-15 I have yet many things to say unto you, but ye cannot bear them now. Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come. He shall glorify me: for he shall receive of mine, and shall shew it unto you. All things that the Father hath are mine: therefore said I, that he shall take of mine, and shall shew it unto you.

The hearing always comes from the Holy Spirit. When Jesus spoke the Holy Spirit was moving him to speak as Jesus never spoke of himself. The disciples had the Spirit with them until Pentecost. Then they had the spirit both with them and in them. The spirit spoke directly to them from the inside or to them through another Christian. Nothing has changed about the way the communication from God works. Always through the Spirit.

Hope I was able to be clear,

Gary

I think the seven spirits of God may be found in 2nd Peter, chapter 1.

Revelation 1:4 says, "Grace be unto you, and peace, from him which is, and which was, and which is to come; and from the seven Spirits which are before his throne"

This verse mentions "grace" and "Peace", and so does 2 Peter 1:2 which says, "Grace and peace be multiplied unto you through the knowledge of God, and of Jesus our Lord".
So I already see a strong connection!

Then second Peter goes on to mention 7 divine natures you can build upon your faith.
Faith of course has to be the starting point, because "without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is" - Hebrews 11:6

The seven spirits are defined as seven lamps in Revelation 4:5
Second Peter mentions how without the 7 divine natures you will be "blind" and "cannot see afar off".
A reference to a lamp?

John the baptist who was filled with the Holy Spirit is described as "a burning and a shining light" in chapter 5 of John.
Because he had the lamps?

Then later in second Peter chapter one, it mentions "a light that shineth in a dark place" and "no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation" which is ironic because Revelation is all about prophecy!

I truly believe the Bible interprets the Bible. Is this a classic example of this?
If so, the seven spirits, lamps and divine natures built upon faith, would be:

-Virtue
-Knowledge
-Temperance
-Patience
-Godliness
-Brotherly Kindness
-Charity

What do you think guys? Think i'm off the mark, here?
Or does 2 Peter chapter 1 help to interpret this?

Thanks for sharing what you're learning, Gary. I have been wondering about the "seven spirits" of God.

One thing, just last night I came upon a website which has a teaching on the seven spirits of God. It lists the fear of the LORD, as one of the spirits and it references Isaiah 11:2:

Isaiah 11:1-2
1 There shall come forth a shoot from the stump of Jesse,
and a branch from his roots shall bear fruit.
2 And the Spirit of the LORD shall rest upon him,
the Spirit of wisdom and understanding,
the Spirit of counsel and might,
the Spirit of knowledge and the fear of the LORD.

And then the Spirit of Truth.

Oh, I see Tribulation shared what he learned on this topic. Thanks for all for sharing the wisdom the LORD has provided for you.

I have a question, how do these coincide with the seven lampstands? How do they relate to the seven churches?

Just some thoughts. I'm still sharpening my iron on a lot of the fundamentals, eschatology has not been something the Lord has called me to spend a ton of time on.

Grace and Peace from Jesus Christ our Lord. The following is put out there for those who will to take from to feed. For any and all others to ignore and walk by proceeding in your own direction. It is not a offering for debate but one for food.

The seven lampstands or candlesticks are the seven churches. The question is do the seven spirits relate to the seven candlesticks?

Johns letter, Revelation is actually from them as well as Jesus Christ the Son or God (Rev 1:4). It is Jesus who has the seven spirits of God (Rev 3:1). The seven spirits of God are the seven lamps of fire burning before the throne ( Rev 4:5). The lamb that was slain has seven eyes which are also the seven spirits of God (Rev 5:6).

Jesus Christ, the one who has the seven spirits of God, is the light of the world that the Father has sent. The Father gives the spirit of the Lord, wisdom, understanding, knowledge, power, council, fear of the Lord unto all whom he will. Jesus Christ has been given all authority in heaven and in earth and to those whom are under the earth. His brethren are they who follow after him and obey him doing the will of the Father.

I came to TJ as a trinitarian. I have since understood otherwise. The Comforter, Holy Spirit, Spirit of the Lord and Spirit of Truth are names of the same spirit which is one of seven that proceed out from the Father who is God as found in Isaiah 11:2. Father and Son are the only two who have ever been in the form of God, of which one has left off of that estate and became part of the creation which was made by him and for him, that he shall rule over forever as soon as it is purified. The final portion of the purification of the creation is coming, the millennial reign of Christ on Earth. The revelation of Jesus Christ the Son of God who shall rule for all of eternity under God the Father.

Beware the Lawyers who love the chapter verse splits, that want to lead you astray with deception as they deceitfully handle the word of God. Awaken to righteousness that is in Christ Our Lord and put on Christ. Escape the coming Fiery Judgment of the Earth and those who dwell upon it.

In Jesus Name,

Gary
