Doctrine?

How about we must live by the commandments of Jesus yet we teach from Doctrines of men. With our mouths we prays and honour the Lord but our hearts are far away.

Update.....

All valid answers, but not the exact doctrine.

It is one of Paul's key doctrines.

It appears in every letter that Paul wrote and is not in the list!

Would you be talking about the fact Paul always spoke of the way to be vigilant against deceivers and false teachings and to always hold to Gods word?

That is in his letters one way or the other in all of them.

Hmmmmm.

So very close Kit, you read the clues.

But, "to be vigilant against deceivers" is not really doctrine.

I am not sure if you could get warmer Kit.

Hey:

I am kinda simple sometimes, I prefer to be and view Gods word as simple and fully understood. But not sure exactly what a doctrine is.

So maybe to just hold to the Doctrine of Christ. To not be swayed by things we hear that we know are false. Would that not be a doctrine in itself.

I will go sit in the corner and await the results.

Hello contestants.

I must admit i was stunned by how many notable doctrines were missing
from the list. Many outstanding posts.

You have waited long enough for the answer.

1 Timothy 6:3

New King James Version

3 If anyone teaches otherwise and does not consent to wholesome words,
even the words of our Lord Jesus Christ, and to the doctrine which accords
with godliness

The doctrine of Godliness, Paul calls it a doctrine.

Okay cool, I was considering something outside of what Jesus taught and did not mince words about. Which re-affirms what I have always maintained, that most people don't consider. The 1st 4 books of the NT are what constitute the Gospel. Outside Acts and Revelations, the the remaining are the letters of the Apostles and our guide to effective witnessing. Witnessing is simply explaining how your life is different (better) with Jesus in it.

The doctrine of Godliness as Paul called it, he was a good witness to Jesus, is a very direct and specific teaching of Jesus. That is why he called it a doctrine. It was in Matthew 5:19-20, interestingly enough the heading for that group from Matt 5:15-20 is, "Teaching About the Law", and likely in the other 3 in a similar way.
