Believers increase in knowledge, but unbelievers go into more ignorance and darkness. Rom 1.18-32. Tit 1.15. 1Jn 1-7.

This speakes of mans unbelief and rebellion and the work of satan.

I was born and raised in England. I know that no one there speaks like that there and those that read the KJV Bible don't speak like that either unless they are reading from the KJV Bible.

In context.

MT 13:10 The disciples came to him and asked, "Why do you speak to the people in parables?"

MT 13:11 He replied, "The knowledge of the secrets of the kingdom of heaven has been given to you, but not to them. 12 Whoever has will be given more, and he will have an abundance. Whoever does not have, even what he has will be taken from him. 13 This is why I speak to them in parables:

"Though seeing, they do not see;
though hearing, they do not hear or understand.

MT 13:14 In them is fulfilled the prophecy of Isaiah:
" `You will be ever hearing but never understanding;
you will be ever seeing but never perceiving.

MT 13:15 For this people's heart has become calloused;
they hardly hear with their ears,
and they have closed their eyes.
Otherwise they might see with their eyes,
hear with their ears,
understand with their hearts
and turn, and I would heal them.'

MT 13:16 But blessed are your eyes because they see, and your ears because they hear. 17 For I tell you the truth, many prophets and righteous men longed to see what you see but did not see it, and to hear what you hear but did not hear it.

That makes it clearer doesn't it?

Very Good.

Of course, you checked the passage for the context.
Very good approach. 100/100 Melody.

At Matthew 13:3-9, Jesus gave an illustration of a "sower (who) went out ot sow" seed, scattering "seed" on different types of "soil", the differing heart conditions of those upon which the kingdom "seed" fell. Because of their unreceptiveness of most to the kingdom, only one made progress, the "fine soil."

The "seed", "the word of the kingdom" (Matt 13:19), made little or no progress "alongside the road", those who allow the comings and goings of the world to impose undue demands on their time and energy may find that they are too preoccupied to develop any heartfelt appreciation for the word of God, in the "rocky places", those who have a rocklike condition of their heart that prevents them from meditating deeply enough on positive and spiritual things, or among the "thorns", "ones that have heard, but, by being carried away by anxieties and riches and pleasures of this life, they are completely choked and bring nothing to perfection.” (Luke 8:14)

In tropical forests, one may find the strangler fig. It grows slowly as it surrounds the trunk of a host tree. Little by little, the vine envelops its host with roots that get stronger and stronger. The strangler fig’s multiple roots eventually absorb most of the nutrients in the soil at the base of the tree, while its canopy deprives its host of light. Finally, the host dies.

In a similar way, the anxieties of this system and the quest for riches and a comfortable life-style can gradually absorb more and more of our time and energy. With our attention diverted to the things of the world, we might easily neglect personal Bible study and make it a custom to miss Christian meetings, thus being cut off from spiritual nourishment. Materialistic goals now replace spiritual pursuits, and we finally become easy prey for Satan.

This brings us to the "fine soil." Jesus, in explaining why he uses illustrations, tells his apostles: "To you it is granted to understand the sacred secrets of the kingdom of the heavens, but to those people it is not granted."(Matt 13:11) Only Jesus disciples wanted to really know the meaning of the illustration of "sower (who) went out sow" and the different types of "soil." To all the others, the illustration was just a "good story."

Hence, by desiring to understand the illustrations Jesus gave, Proverbs 9:9 sees a fulfillment in his disciples, for it says: "Give to a wise person and he will become still wiser. Impart knowledge to someone righteous and he will increase in learning."

Hence, those of the "fine soil", those whose heart condition are sincerely hungering for truth and righteousness, "will become still wiser", and "will increase in learning." It is also evident that God has caused his purposes to be revealed to humble ones ("fine soil") and hidden from haughty ones, because ‘to do thus came to be the way approved by him.’ (Matt 11:25-27)

Thus, "more (accurate knowledge and understanding of God's purposes) will be given him and he will be made to abound."(Matt 13:12) To these ones, "God has revealed them through his spirit, for the spirit searches into all things, even the deep things of God."(1 Cor 2:10)

On the other hand, those whose "soil" or heart condition causes them to disregard "the word of the kingdom", are at a loss as to the kingdom's meaning, despite professing to be Christian or even among those of the religious leaders. Jesus said succinctly: "Therefore, pay attention to how you listen; for whoever has, more will be given him, but whoever does not have, even what he imagines he has will be taken away from him.”(Luke 8:18)

Many "imagines" that they have Bible knowledge and understanding, when in fact, they do not. Jesus used a Greek word concerning his illustrations - sy·ni´e·mi - that literally means "to put the pieces together."(Strong's G4920; Matt 13:13)

Hence, most are unable "to put the pieces together" about the kingdom, or of the Bible, for that matter. Though they "imagines" that they understand the kingdom, these fail to grasp it's depth of meaning. Therefore, in an illustrative way, "whoever does not have, even what he has will be taken from him."(Matt 13:12)

These remain spiritually blind, groping about but just cannot understand what the Bible truly says. They may have extensive knowledge of the Bible, but are unable "to put the pieces together" regarding God's purposes.

More profound answer!

Dear Jaareshiah, care to expand on what you said. In particular

Thus, "more (accurate knowledge and understanding of God's purposes) will be given him and he will be made to abound."(Matt 13:12) To these ones, "God has revealed them through his spirit, for the spirit searches into all things, even the deep things of God."(1 Cor 2:10)

In fact, how would you now read the following passage.

Ephesians 6:12 (NASB)
For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the powers, against the world forces of this darkness, against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places.

Hahahahahahahahahaha this made me laugh.......... lol lol

But, as to your question, I do think I agree with the first post about increasing knowledge and understanding. I too was wondering about this verse.... it can't surely mean rich people get richer and poor people get poorer lol.... unless riches equate to God, and squalor is to the world...

In fact, how would you now read the following passage.

Ephesians 6:12 (NASB)
For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the powers, against the world forces of this darkness, against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places.

The apostle Paul gave stirring counsel to the Ephesians, to "go on acquiring power in [the] Lord and in the mightiness of his strength", and to "put on the complete suit of armor from God that you may be able to stand firm against the machinations (Greek methodeia, meaning "2. to follow craftily, frame devices, deceive", Thayer's Greek-English Lexicon of the New Testament, pg 395) of the Devil." Why ? Because of the Devil's crafty "machinations", with the word "machinations" meaning "plotting or intrigue: the devising of secret, cunning, or complicated plans and schemes."( Microsoft® Encarta® Reference Library 2005)

Satan is deceptive in his practices, "for Satan himself keeps transforming himself into an angel of light."(2 Cor 11:14) With this backdrop in mind, what can be understood ? One that Satan very deviously controls human affairs of the "world" without most people aware of it. And two, that a true Christian has a "wrestling, not against blood and flesh, but against the governments, against the authorities, against the world rulers of this darkness, against the wicked spirit forces in the heavenly places."

It is against Satan and his demons that a true Christian must fight. However, these are in the spirit realm. It is not against human governmental systems that a Christian must contest, as have so many (even those who have called themselves Christian) in the present and past have done, by uprisings or coups or protests. Rather, a true Christian is in a conflict with the unseen spirit realm of Satan and his cohorts, the demons.

Being crafty and seductive, Satan has built a world-wide political system of things, from the days of Nimrod, some four thousand years ago, down till our time. This governmental system of things, called in the book of Revelation "a wild beast" that came up out "of the sea"(Rev 13:1), is the creative handiwork of Satan, who is called "the great dragon."(Rev 12:9)

Through he and his demonic cohorts, he manipulates or controls all human governments. When before Jesus, after having "showed him all the kingdoms of the inhabited earth in an instant of time", he told him: "I will give you all this authority and the glory of them, because it has been delivered to me, and to whomever I wish I give it."(Luke 4:5, 6)

The apostle Paul wrote that "though we walk in the flesh, we do not wage warfare (Literally, “we are not doing military service.” Greek, ou . . . stra·teu·o´me·tha; Latin, non . . . mi·li·ta´mus, "warfare" - Greek lemma or base word strateuomai, meaning literally "to serve in a military campaign", Strongs' # G4754) according to [what we are in the] flesh. For the weapons of our warfare are not fleshly, but powerful by God for overturning strongly entrenched things."(2 Cor 10:3, 4) Thus, a true Christian does "not wage warfare according to (the) flesh", he does not involve himself in the political or military affairs of the "world", which is under Satan's manipulation.(1 John 5:19)

Those who are true Christians are the ones being taught by Jehovah God in these "final part of the days"("last days", King James Bible), to have "beat(en) their swords into plowshares and their spears into pruning shears. They will not lift up sword, nation against nation, neither will they learn war anymore."(Micah 4:3)

A true Christian recognizes that we are at war, not with any human governmental system but against the real unseen ruler of these governments, Satan and his demons. Jesus did not fight against the Roman Empire, but rather, when asked by Pontius Pilate "Are you a king ? ", told him: "My kingdom is no part of this world. If my kingdom were part of this world, my attendants would have fought that I should not be delivered up to the Jews. But, as it is, my kingdom is not from this source.”(John 18:36)

It should be noted that Jesus said that if his kingdom were "part of the world", or those alienated from God, his "attendants would have fought that I should not be delivered up to the Jews." These would have used fleshly warfare to defend Jesus, perhaps shedding blood. However, Jesus said: "But, as it is, my kingdom is not from this source." Hence, true Christians do not fight with others in fleshly warfare, as on the battlefield that the nations have done and continuing to do by maintaining their military "machines."

Rather, these use the Bible for the purpose of "overturning strongly entrenched things....overturning reasonings and every lofty thing raised up against the knowledge of God; and we are bringing every thought into captivity to make it obedient to the Christ."(2 Cor 10:4, 5) These follow Jesus words: "Go therefore and make disciples of people of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the holy spirit, teaching them to observe all the things I have commanded you."(Matt 28:19, 20)

False religion is pervasive throughout the world, in which false religious ideology are "reasonings and every lofty thing raised up against the knowledge of God". And instead of joining the military or fighting in the wars of the nations, which the churches have so emphatically done, shedding much blood, true Christians have "beat(en) their swords into plowshares and their spears into pruning shears". As a result, "nation will not lift up sword against nation, neither will they learn war anymore."(Isa 2:4) These have truly followed in Jesus footsteps.(1 Pet 2:21)

Very good.

Your understanding is true, rich in the Holy Spirit. Your explanation perfectly conforms with all other scripture.
Your reply was perfect, free from corruption.
It is the pure spiritual explanation derived from a mind focussed on Christ. Your explanation has no origin in the flesh.
What further question can I ask? I already know your answer.
Thankyou in Christ.
