1 thessalonians chapter 3:1 to 6
1 Wherefore when we could no longer forbear!!, we thought it good to be left at Athens alone;
2 And sent Timotheus, our brother, and minister of God, and our fellowlabourer in the gospel of Christ!, to establish! you, and to comfort you concerning your faith!!:
3 That {{no man should be moved by these {{afflictions}}: for {{yourselves}} know that we! are! {{appointed thereunto!}}.
4 For {{verily}}, when we were {{with you}}, we told you before!! that {{we should suffer tribulation!!}}; even as it
{{came! to pass!!}}, and ye know.
5 For this cause, when I could no longer forbear, I sent to know your {{faith}}, lest! by some means the {{tempter have tempted}} you, and our labour be in {{vain}}!!!.
6 But now when Timotheus came from you unto us, and brought us good tidings of your faith and charity,
and that ye have good remembrance of us always, desiring greatly to see us, as we also to see you:
7 Therefore, brethren, {{we were comforted}} over you in all our {{{affliction and distress}}} by your faith:
8 For now we live!, {{if ye stand fast in the Lord}}.

MATTHEW 24:29 Immediately{{ after}} the(( tribulation)) of those days shall the sun be darkened, and the moon shall not give her light, and the stars shall fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens shall be shaken And{ then} shall appear the sign of the {Son of man in heaven}: and then shall all the tribes of the earth mourn, and they shall see the Son of man coming in the clouds of heaven with power and great glory
MARK 13:24 But in those days, {{{after}}} that tribulation, the sun shall be darkened, and the moon shall not give her light,
25 And the stars of heaven shall fall, and the powers that are in heaven shall be shaken.
26 And then shall they see the {{Son of man coming in the clouds with great power and glory}}.
27 And then shall he send his angels, and shall gather together his elect from the four winds, from the uttermost part of the earth to the uttermost part of heaven

I THESSALONIANS 3:4 For {{verily}}, when we were {{with you}}, we told you before!! that {{we should suffer tribulation!!}};
II THESSALONIANS 2:[3] Let no{{ man}} deceive you by any means:
for that day shall {{{not come}},
except there come a falling away first,
and that {{{man of sin be revealed}},
the {{{son of perdition}}};
[4] Who {opposeth} and {exalteth} himself above all that is called {God},
or that is worshipped; so that he {as God}
{sitteth in the temple of God}
{shewing himself that he is{ God}.

[5] Remember ye not, that, when I was yet with you,
I told you these things?

II THESSALONIANS 2:9] Even{ him,} { jesus}
whose coming is{ after } a.f. t. e. r. the working of {{{Satan}}}

I'm sorry dude, I have no idea what you are trying to say.
And what's with all the brackets?

did you not read in all the scripture above not one time did jesus say he would rapture you out before!!!!! tribulation in fact he said after!!!! after means after

iceman! you need to change you screen name to Greek Philosopher !!!!
Many of Basil's writings have survived. Of particular interest is his work Hexameron or On the Six Days of the Creation, which was originally delivered as a series of nine sermons during lent. Basil's deep love for nature of evident throughout this work. He drew extensively from the works of the classical writers. The most significant influence on his thinking was probably that of {Aristotle}. Basil maintained that he interpreted the Bible literally, rather than allegorically as Origen had done. if this is what you study! you have problems

and all the brackets!! are words that you are ignoring!! my quots come from the bible where do you get yours!!!! Basil's

i guess i should not have cast my pearls before swine!

Thanks for your concern :)

Actually I haven't studied any of Basil's works. I found the quote particularly apt for my situation. As a theology student it is all too easy to make snap decisions and jump to conclusions. In doing so you can think that you are right over and above another without ever really engaging with what they have to say. Needless to say, the quote helps ward me against such arrogance.

However I hope you realise you are quoting Paul, not Jesus when you quote Thessalonians. That of course raises a few issues with your statement. Of course Rapture is a specifically Pauline idea. So it's no surprise you don't find it in Jesus.

Probably the most significant aspect lacking from your eschatology is that you've forgotten to include the cosmological ressurrection. Paul's idea of a New Creation is pivotal for his theology. Indeed there is every reason to believe (as Jesus was a good first century Jew) that his eschatology would have mirrored Paul's. After all, Jesus' movement was a messianic movement.

Perhaps you feel just quoting the bible is inadequate?? that you feel you need to do whatever it is you do with those brackets.. It just makes it confusing to read, and your point is lost. Might I suggest that if you are trying to highlight specific words, you use colour?

But I hope that whatever pearl it is you are trying to get accross by spouting scripture whimsically, and regardless of what it tries to say for itself, reaches whoever it is you are trying to make it reach. Unfortunately it is a pearl that is too shallow and defunct for this swine. :)

pearls and Swine

i guess i should not have cast my pearls before swine!

Kevin, your writings are confusing, you bring up age old arguments, for someone being new. There is a search function on this forum about these very Old topics you bring up.

And if you knew what the heck you were talking about, then us Swine might be more interested in what your trying to convey.

Your not making a very good impression, and you show a lot of newness of someone that just got saved, and need to be learning at this stage, not sharing opinions.

And who the Heck is Basil, and what he wrote means nothing compared to the Word of God.

Jesus is Lord.

Howdy Iceman!

I read your post with great interest. I also wanted to make a comment on your second paragraph. You said...

What I want to do here is show you something that might interest you. If you would open your Bible please to Luke 21 and begin reading at verse 29. Continue reading until you get to verse 36. The Bible says the following words as spoken by Jesus Christ...

Luke 21:36 Watch ye therefore, and pray always, that ye may be accounted worthy to escape all these things that shall come to pass, and to stand before the son of man.

Jesus Christ using the word escape in this verse is a very powerful clue and prophecy for something to happen in the future for the Seed of Isaac multiplied as the stars of the heaven in the Tribulation period of Daniel 9:27.

As you can see, Jesus describes the events that take place during the Tribulation period just like He did in Matthew 24. Now, looking back at verse 28, Jesus says something that is very powerful as follows...

Luke 21:28 And when these things begin to come to pass, then look up, and lift up your heads; for your redemption draweth nigh.

Therefore, What Jesus says in verse 36 points to a departure in the Tribulation period for the seed of Isaac multiplied as the stars of the heaven at the beginning of the midpoint of the Tribulation period that does not involve the 2 Witnesses of Revelation 11 and the 144,000 of Revelation 7:1-8.

What Jesus says in Luke 21:36 points to Revelation 14:13-16 for the Seed of Isaac multiplied as the stars of the heaven at the beginning of the midpoint of the Tribulation period.

Revelation 14:13-16

13. And I heard a voice from heaven saying unto me, Write, Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord from henceforth: Yea, saith the Spirit, that they may rest from their labours; and their works do follow them.
14. And I looked, and behold a white cloud, and upon the cloud one sat like unto the Son of man, having on his head a golden crown, and in his hand a sharp sickle.
15. And another angel came out of the temple, crying with a loud voice to him that sat on the cloud, Thrust in thy sickle, and reap: for the harvest of the earth is ripe.
16. And he that sat on the cloud thrust in his sickle on the earth, and the earth was reaped.

The 2 Witnesses of Revelation 11 are called up into Heaven at the end of the first 3 1/2 years of the Tribulation period. The 144,000 Jewish Priests are harpozed into Heaven and are shown in Heaven with Jesus in Revelation 14:1-5 after the 2 Witnesses.

And, When the Second half of Daniel's 70th week begins, Christ reaps the earth once again and takes the Seed of Isaac multiplied as the stars of the heaven into Heaven so that they can escape the last half of Daniel's 70th Week.

Thank you for your time. I just wanted to show you this. I thought you might find this an interesting study.

God Bless You!

Dr. Mike

Scripture verses are pearls, but you're casting them around with a heavy coating of mud. You need to change your posting style because no one wants to read posts that look like gibberish.

The original text didn't have brackets, or multiple explanation points, premature line breaks, or line numbers. The original texts were written the common language. (I guess I should give you credit of not using multiple colors and font sizes. Why is that that Christians, more than anyone, want to make their posts hard to read?)

Also, we all have Bibles that we can read ourselves. So, your posts should consist primarily of your points, not of Bible quotes.

I'm not sure what point you are trying to make. While my origional post was dealing with Paul and Jesus, you have added Johannine literature into the mix. While I am a fan of the larger meta-narrative of Biblical interpretation, it has it's limitations as I think you may have unwittingly pointed out. Luke 21:32 is a demonstration of Luke's eschatology. Luke was expecting an imminent parousia. That whatever was to happen would happen within a generation. That is of course not what happened.

The eschatology of Revelation is of course highly debated, however needless to say that the apocalypticism found within that text doesn't necessarily match any form of Pauline theology.

However I fear you may have misunderstood my origional comment. While I said "it's no surprise you don't find it in Jesus." I should qualify that by saing that it may have simply been a granted part of Jesus eschatology. I don't think that combining Synoptic and Johannine literatures is an effective way of trying to unite Synoptic and Pauline literatures.

It isn't really something that needs to be hugely argued, after all
Indeed there is every reason to believe (as Jesus was a good first century Jew) that his eschatology would have mirrored Paul's. After all, Jesus' movement was a messianic movement.
