Does the Bible speak of dinosaurs? Yes. There isn't a doubt in my mind. In fact, I challenge anyone who reads this to deny it. Two creatures are spoken of in the Bible that are, in my opinion, dinosaurs. The first such creature is the leviathan. In the dictionary, a leviathan is defined as: 1. Something unusually large of its kind, especially a ship. 2. A very large animal, especially a whale. 3. A monstrous sea creature mentioned in the Bible. Job 41:1-2: Canst thou draw out leviathan with an hook? or his tongue with a cord which thou lettest down? Canst thou put an hook into his nose? or bore his jaw through with a thorn? Psalms 104:26: There go the ships: there is that leviathan, whom thou hast made to play therein.
Hi Tranquility,
In my opinion as I look at Job 41 and the Leviathan, I really think this speaks of Satan. Satan is portrayed as a great dragon and an enemy to God and man. Lets take a look at the next few verses.
Verse 3: Will he make many supplications unto thee? will he speak soft words unto thee?
Here we can see this is not just an animal, but that of the works of Satan. His best tool is to deceive and through his "soft words."
Verse 4: Will he make a covenant with thee? wilt thou take him for a servant for ever?
Satan wants nothing other than man to follow him and make a covenant. He will promise power, money, fame etc.. He will do whatever it takes because as said he is the ultimate deceiver.
Verse 5: Wilt thou play with him as with a bird? or wilt thou bind him for thy maidens?
I think many people today are "playing" around with Satan which we can see throughout the world with as much evil as we have.
Verse 6: Shall the companions make a banquet of him? shall they part him among the merchants?
This shows we can't defeat Satan by our own strength, but we must depend on the Lord to fight and overcome this battle.
Verse 7: Canst thou fill his skin with barbed irons? or his head with fish spears?
This is saying we can't defeat Satan with normal weapons.
Verse 8: Lay thine hand upon him, remember the battle, do no more.
The Lord is saying again we cannot defeat Satan by our own strength, but battle no more, because now Satan has been defeated by Jesus Christ and what he did on the cross.
Verse 9:
Behold, the hope of him is in vain: shall not one be cast down even at the sight of him?
No one can make deals with Satan, whoever tries will be "cast down."
As you can see, I really think these scriptures point to talking of Satan and not some animal.
As far as the behemoth in the previous chapter, that I believe is some kind of animal, whether it be a dinosaur, or whatever, but wanted to give my take on the Leviathan in chapter 41.
Take care and God Bless.
