Walk in the Spirit and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh.

God does not want us to only have our sin forgiven, then to stumble through life failing, no longer victorious, and our live's helpless and hopeless. He desires to give us His two great gifts - cleansing by His precious blood, and victory by His indwelling Spirit.
And so the Holy Spirit who opens our eyes to see Jesus in the pages of scripture, is the same Holy Spirit who regenerates, or gives to us life in our conversion, and He is the same Holy Spirit who desires to lead us into sanctification - the Holy Walk with God which is His desire for us.
God the Holy Spirit is easily grieved by our hardness and sinfulness. He is a gentle and loving Holy Spirit. So "Grieve not the Holy Spirit of God, whereby you are sealed unto the day of redemption" Eph 4:30
When a young Christian sins, he does not lose his salvation, but he loses the joy of it. And when we fail Christ we do not lose Christ, we lose the sunshine of His smile. Keep short accounts with Him.
Be sensitive to conscience for it is enlightened by the Holy Spirit. We have to walk delicately with Him, and let the gentleness and the holiness of the Spirit, ever be touching our thoughts, our attitudes, our relationships, our life - because the Holy Spirit wants to lead us on into sanctfication.
And - very practical - if we are not to grieve the Holy Spirit, then, "Let all bitterness and wrath and anger and clamour, and evil speaking be put away from you, with all malice: and be kind to one another, tender hearted forgiving one another even as God for Christ's sake hath forgiven you" Eph 4: 31-32
