When My Fingers Grow Back?

*** WARNING TEARS WILL FLOW ***

A man came out of his home to admire his new truck. To his puzzlement, his three-year-old son was happily hammering dents into the shiny paint.

The man ran to his son, knocked him away, hammered the little boy's hands into a pulp as punishment. When the father calmed down, he rushed his son to the hospital.

Although the doctor tried desperately to save the crushed bones, he finally had to amputate the fingers from both the boy's hands. When the boy woke up from the surgery & saw his bandaged stubs, he innocently said, "Daddy, I'm sorry about your truck." Then he asked, "but when are my fingers going to grow back?"

The father went home and committed suicide.

Think about the story the next time you see someone spill milk at a dinner table or hear a baby crying. Think first before you lose your patience with someone you love. Trucks can be repaired. Broken bones & hurt feelings often can't. Too often we fail to recognize the difference between the person and the performance. People make mistakes. We are allowed to make mistakes. But the actions we take while in a rage will haunt us forever.

Pause and ponder. Think before you act. Be patient. Understand and love.

My father was an abusive man when I was growing up. It was very hard for us as his children and my step mom to see his love. I know that he had/has Bipolar like me, but I still wonder why...sometimes.

And I understand that people can do things in a rage...I have seen it. I have said things I have regretted later.

The wonderful thing is that...even though these things happen...God isn't pushing us away and saying "Get away. I don't want you." He knows we make mistakes...and he opens his arms to us and says..."I love you, my child. Come and I will comfort you."

It is after all our choice...to get angry or to bring mercy to the person.

Father God, thank you for being the most merciful One I know! Thank you...

If we could only remember to think like Jesus and our words wouldn't cut the ones we Love..

A man came out of his home to admire his new truck.

This short sentence gives us the root of the problem: a man getting his identity from ownership of a truck - the sign of American manhood. Now he was a man's man, now he could whip his weight in wildcats. He loved his son, but he worshipped his truck. That boy wasn't destroying a vehicle; he was destroying his dad's manhood. Without that truck, dad was a nobody. Lord, deliver us from the worship of material things and the images they represent.

Points to ponder, thanks..
