First Woman Priest?! Question within.

So today at work I saw the front page of the Troy Record with the Title: "Answering Call" "First woman priest is ordained at St. John's"

Of course I didn't get a chance to read the article, but the cover showed an older woman with very short hair in front of a man priest...

So... I'm not outraged or anything, maybe this post belongs in the ethical/morality issue topics, but aren't women supposed to be silent in the churches and cover their heads while praying and ask whatever they want to their husbands regarding church at home (for men are to be teachers only)? According to corinthians (2nd I think, i cannot remember), this is so, so why go against Paul's God-inspired teachings? Churches are seemingly lulling further away from their initial intensions, imo, and it's really captivating me to the point of realizing the end (of this world) has gotta come soon.

I currently do not attend any churches, and when I did first become a believer a little over a year ago, I did, and became quite emotional. I cried like a baby a few times, and felt too embarrassed to go, because nobody acted as I did. I fell hard into the Lord's word, and respect it greatly due to my mass research and epic search for truth.

Even Thessalonians says to prove all things unto thyself, and that is what I've been doing.

So my point is why did I see women chatting away like chatty kathys in the church? One man I'll quote actually had nerve to say 'God isn't in the church anymore'. I don't believe this because God is everywhere (omnipresent), but if I were God, I would wish the church obeyed the Bible more thoroughly, and held teaching-sessions daily, rather than weekly (with more bible-readings as well!).

OK, i'm done venting and must sleep.

Sorry to offend anyone, I just wanted to open a kind discussion :)

Why a female priest (against biblical teachings)?

Also, why call the priest 'Father'? Isn't our Father, the one and only Father in heaven? (And then there's the earth-daddy of course)

Peace unto you, and grace from our Lord Jesus Christ.

I might be interested in this discussion...

First, if you dont mind, may I ask you what I consider to be a pertinent
question?

You say you are a newborn Christian, so i`m wondering, have you been born of the Spirit since you first believed?

I consider your use of "chatty kathys" in reference to the beloved daughters of Christ, to be a rather disparaging remark, in light of your great respect for His Word, but I`ll let it pass.

i was just using that slang to announce the chattiness without judgement, just stating what they were doing

1 Corinthians 14:33
1 Corinthians 14:34
1 Corinthians 14:35
1 Corinthians 14:36
1 Corinthians 14:37
and so on

1 Corinthians 11:1
1 Corinthians 11:2
1 Corinthians 11:3
1 Corinthians 11:4
1 Corinthians 11:5
1 Corinthians 11:6
1 Corinthians 11:7
1 Corinthians 11:8
1 Corinthians 11:9
1 Corinthians 11:10
1 Corinthians 11:11
1 Corinthians 11:12
1 Corinthians 11:13
1 Corinthians 11:14
1 Corinthians 11:15
1 Corinthians 11:16

talks about women covering their heads (with long hair or cover) while praying

you didn't adress the issue, but rather pointed out that I said something not offensive, just descriptive slang which i had heard in the past and was apparently corrupted by it, and i totally shouldn't of said it!

you happened to use a couple words i couldn't understand like

"disparaging''
"pertinent"

a person of the Lord shouldn't debate/argue about what I recognized people breaking the Lord's requests as. It wasn't a label, just a description. Not a judgement, just an action noticed.
I believe that is where you misinterpretted my post. im sorry!

So if anyone wants to discuss why women shouldn't teach, speak now.

Women are from man, man is from God. (All is Of God)
Women were deceived in the beginning, then deceived man

So when the Bible tells us not to speak or to use less words, I'd prefer we abide by it

Just a few thoughts:
First every believer is a priest (Rev 5:10) so we do not need another mediator between us and God (1Ti 2:5) and in the spirit there is neither male nor female (Gal 3:28).

...and became quite emotional. I cried like a baby a few times, and felt too embarrassed to go, because nobody acted as I did.

Find a Spirit filled church, you'll fit right in.

Well, to be exact, I believe they are called busybodies and gossips, "Chatty Cathy's" was much more lenient. 1Timothy 5:13

First of all, 'first woman priest...' thing...this woman is the first one in a certain diocese. I know there was a woman priest at a Catholic church my mom, my step dad, my brother, and I went to to see the Passion play. That was about 10 or more years ago.

The 'argument' of women teaching/preaching, etc has been going on for years in the church.

It is interesting to me how the discussion comes about. I usually don't think of it, but I guess I am so modern that I think it is fine for me to teach a Bible study to males and females.

There are some that will not listen to a female when she is teaching/preaching. It is sad really. We as human beings, male and female, black, white, yellow, red...can learn so much from each other.

It would be a sad thing to be a woman (and I am) and know God has put a calling on my life to preach/teach both men and women, but because of what the Bible supposedly says I can't. So...does that mean...God didn't call me or that the interpretation of the scriptures is wrong?

I have heard strong godly women speak from the pulpit in front of both genders and speak with such power...not yelling, but with Holy Spirit power that I can't say women shouldn't speak and teach both men and women.

I am not a scholar, I do know some things about the origin of the Bible...and how it was written.

2 Timothy 3:16

16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:

Okay, I got that, I believe Paul wrote that.

Do you know that most of what Paul wrote were letters to churches?

Should we not take the context in which something in the Bible is written into account? Does it matter?

If so, what was happening at the point in time where Paul wrote about coverings for prayer and women not speaking in the church?

If I don't wear a covering and have short hair (which both are true for me), does that mean I am sinning and in contempt or something? Are my prayers heard any less or not at all because I have no head covering?

I believe we are to read the Bible, but I also believe we are to study it. To learn not only what the Word says, what it implies, but also what was the context in which the writer was writing.

It's it interesting to know that while John was on Pathos (I think it was) he did some writing.

Paul wrote from prison.

Do we just toss the context aside?

Do we throw out the rest of the Bible when we look at verses?

There were women prophets in the Bible. There was Deborah. There was Hannah (Anna).

Luke 2:36-38

36 And there was one Anna, a prophetess, the daughter of Phanuel, of the tribe of Aser: she was of a great age, and had lived with an husband seven years from her virginity;

37 And she was a widow of about fourscore and four years, which departed not from the temple, but served God with fastings and prayers night and day.

38 And she coming in that instant gave thanks likewise unto the Lord, and spake of him to all them that looked for redemption in Jerusalem.

I always wonder...God and the Bible can not be wrong...ever.

Is this idea...women not being pastors, etc...is that our idea or God's?

This is a time for prayer.

Father God,
Open our eyes to Your truth. We are sick and tired of lies. Show us Lord. We want to be where You want us and not be buried by ideas that are not of You. Help my words be Yours. In Jesus' name, Amen.

*sarcasm* Did I just teach? *oops* (Some believe that women can't even teach as on forums...giving ideas...goes against what Paul wrote also)

Regardless of current cultural acceptance, I believe the Bible is perfectly clear regarding this subject.

1 Tim 2:11 Let the woman learn in silence with all subjection. 12 But I suffer not a woman to teach, nor to usurp authority over the man, but to be in silence.
And even the reason was provided.

1 Tim 2:13 For Adam was first formed, then Eve. 14 And Adam was not deceived, but the woman being deceived was in the transgression. 15 Notwithstanding she shall be saved in childbearing, if they continue in faith and charity and holiness with sobriety.
I understand what denominations and even some independents are doing as far as placing women in these rolls. I can voice my disapproval but without authority to enforce. They are at liberty to follow their own desires, I am at liberty to question those desires.

You're quite right. The Bible is perfectly clear about this, and women "pastors" go against the very word they preach by standing in the pulpit. Women can testify, be a missionary or spread the witness in many other important ways; they just can't be pastors. Churches that permit this will inevitably start allowing other non-scriptural things to pass.

What do you all think of a Pastors wife standing in for her husband if he is ill, or otherwise displaced for a time? Has he not given her permission to speak? To teach? To preach? When does the church recognize her as a part of the Pastoral head?

Or is this different from a single woman being a pastor?

I would question a pastor who had not trained up godly men who could take over the service in such instances. We have gone through periods where the pastor has called on several of the more established men of the church to bring the Wed night service. We have men in the church who could provide a good message under any circumstance (we are not a large church).

A pastor becoming ill or being away for some other reason does not permit his wife to be a temporary pastor. Just like TommMann said, a good church will have other men who step up to the plate. At my church, a deacon or pastor-in-training fills in during the rare occasions that the pastor is absent.

That was not the question.

Your are correct, the answer was implied but not directly answered. No it would not be appropriate for the pastors wife, or any other woman of the congregation to fill the place of the pastor under such circumstances. Whether he has given her permission or not is outside consideration. Scripture has not given permission or authority for it to happen.

There is neither male nor female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus.

I dunno, I have known some women who should have never been allowed to speak that did, but there are some that have said things that could have only come through the Lord. Same with some men. The Lord will use who He chooses to use. What were the circumstances Paul was referring to in that letter? What were the happenings of that particular church, at that time? I would think that one would have to be careful not to become puffed up in the reasons they refuse to listen to what a woman has to say when it has to do with things of the Lord.

I prefer a Pastor have a wife, and not be just a single man, he is too open to temptations. So I would think the same of a woman, if her husband is not in that same role, she would be too hindered by perhaps his need for more from her. Then if she were single, that would make it impossible for other women of the congregation to feel completely comfortable with their husbands going to the pastor... I guess she would have to be really old and ugly....

I am just wasting bandwidth here anyway...what do I know I am just a woman. :))

Edit: Sorry Preist and Pastor are two different things...they don't even compare to each other..

I won't take time to argue with you on this. The Word is clear and my final authority.

At the church my husband and I got to there are two sets of pastors. There is Pastors Dan and Renee-the lead pastors. Then, there is Pastors Matt and Danelle-the Youth Pastors.

You believe what you want. I will believe what I will.

I will believe and declare what scripture states!

Children of Light-------
Your view of women ministering in public is taken from denominational Christendom which has NO PLACE in scripture.
Probably you will see Bible Believers in BIBLE ACTION if you take time to attend a gathering in a "GOSPEL HALL meeting" conducted in the Christian Brethern, where all things are done "decently & in order.
BUT you will never find perfection here on earth, but we can meet many SAINTS who are blameless.
I HAVE SEEN THIS & IT IS HEAVENLY.

What is a "good" church?

So I assume a "small" church just starting out, with very few members, no one in training, and members all babes in Christ...not a good church. Guess it would be best to cancel the meeting then altogether....and hinder the coming together of the saints to stay orderly.
Do you really think Jesus has time for this? That's almost as silly as thinking He is concerned about the length of ones sleeves.

I'll make a note of this. Thanks...I stand informed...............
