Jesus: the only name you need to know.

But consider this: not a single one of the apostles or anyone who knew him called him by that name "Gee-zuhs". Since they spoke greek and aramaic, they likely called him "Iesous" or "Yeshua", perhaps "Yahshua", which translated would be "Joshua" in our tongue. But, eh, who cares? ;) The Lord has allowed salvation now through "Jesus", he has allowed his scripture to have that as his son's name, so it is acceptable.

You forgot to list the name above all names....Jesus.

No, I didn't. I was referring to God our Father, not Jesus, with the exception of "Immanuel". I also have a separate list with the 100 names of Jesus.

I make a distinct difference between God the Father and Jesus who is God the Son but has ALL the attributes of God the Father.

I KNOW who Jesus is and I also know that all the above names are also His.

In this particular post however, I was speaking specifically of God the Father, no one else.

My mostest favorite....

Ancient of Days....

Daniel 7:9
I watched till thrones were put in place, and the Ancient of Days was seated; His garment was white as snow, and the hair of His head was like pure wool. His throne was a fiery flame, its wheels a burning fire.

Daniel 7:13
I was watching in the night visions, and behold, One like the Son of Man, coming with the clouds of heaven! He came to the Ancient of Days, and they brought Him near before Him.

At Exodus 3:15, God told Moses: "This is what you are to say to the sons of Israel, ‘Jehovah the God of your forefathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob, has sent me to you.’ This is my name to time indefinite, and this is the memorial of me to generation after generation."

Thus God has one name that identifies him. He gave himself that name, not any human. In verse 14, he explains the meaning of his name: "At this God said to Moses: “I SHALL PROVE TO BE WHAT I SHALL PROVE TO BE.” And he added: “This is what you are to say to the sons of Israel, ‘I SHALL PROVE TO BE has sent me to you.’”

The name Jehovah is the causative form, the imperfect state, of the Hebrew verb ha·wah´ (become); meaning “He Causes to Become”. Though Scripturally designated by such descriptive titles as “God,” “Sovereign Lord,” “Creator,” “Father,” “the Almighty,” and “the Most High,” his personality and attributes—who and what he is—are fully summed up and expressed only in this personal name.(Ps 83:18)

“Jehovah” is the best known English pronunciation of the divine name, although “Yahweh” is favored by most Hebrew scholars. The oldest Hebrew manuscripts present the name in the form of four consonants, commonly called the Tetragrammaton (from Greek te·tra-, meaning “four,” and gram´ma, “letter”). These four letters (written from right to left) are יהוה and may be transliterated into English as YHWH (or, JHVH). Just as Jesus is the Latin transliteration into English, so is Jehovah.

People find no difficulty in using the English transliteration Jesus, though it is in Greek I·e·sous′, which corresponds to the Hebrew Ye·shu′a‛ or Yehoh·shu′a‛ and means “Jehovah Is Salvation”. These therefore should find the name Jehovah appropriate as well. In 1530, William Tyndale produced an edition of the Pentateuch, the first five books of the Hebrew Scriptures. He thus became the first person to translate the Bible from Hebrew directly into English. Tyndale was also the first English translator to use the name Jehovah. London scholar David Daniell writes: “It would surely have struck Tyndale’s readers forcibly that the name of God was newly revealed.”

The name Jehovah is found in the original Hebrew as the Tetragrammaton (YHWH, meaning "four letter") and occurs 6,828 times in the Hebrew text printed in Biblia Hebraica and Biblia Hebraica Stuttgartensia. It is found more times than the descriptive titles of “God,” “Sovereign Lord,” “Creator,” “Father,” “the Almighty,” and “the Most High" combined.
