Jesus tells us that in MT. 23;9. But as God tells us in 1 Corinthians 3:1-6, people don't believe Jesus and start following people. They follow; Luther, Calvin, John Wesley, the Pope, John Piper, Tim LaHay, Charles Russel, Joseph Smith, etc. Many people also think that the truth is determined by a vote and the majority wins.

And that's why there are divisions between Christians as that passage and other passages like it explain. We are to follow God's word alone. All of those theologians can't all be right because they all disagree with each other and God is not divided.

So why do people follow people? For the same reason that the Jews wanted a king. God told them that he was their king. But many Jews didn't really trust that God was there because they couldn't see Him. So they wanted a king they could see. So God gave them kings and because they were all humans, they all disappointed the Jews.

Those who follow people can't see God because they don't know God. They thus can't have faith in God's word alone. They have to ask other people. So they follow human beings like the above. And that is how false teachers become so popular.

Jesus makes it clear in MT. 24:39-40 that the rapture happens after the tribulation when he comes. Very clear. But popular books by theologians can easily sway people away from the bible because most people don't trust their own faith in God's word. Jesus also makes it crystal clear not to call anyone 'father" because we have one Father and He is in heaven.

But those who don't know God follow what people say and that's when they change the bible to make it say what their itching ears want to hear.

But no false teacher admits he's a false teacher. All false teachers claim to believe the bible. But of course they don't since again, God is not divided. He will not tell one person one thing and another person the opposite. So again, you have one teacher and that is Christ. Just read and believe every word in the bible without adding or subtracting words and you will know what the truth is. It's that simple. :embarasse

The Word of God is the standard by which all is judged. That does not mean that God has not given our brethren revelation into His Word by His Spirit over the last 2,000 years. I compare that to eating watermelon, sometimes we need to spit out the seeds.
Learn from great men of God but follow Christ only.

Carico: I find your comments interesting, but they leave open a number of questions. At this time I will just ask three. First, which teachings of Jesus do we follow? Second, are we to follow the teachings of the Apostle Paul? And third, I would find your testimony very interesting as to how you have personally obeyed Jesus’ command and gone into all the world and preached the gospel to every creature (Mark 16:15). I look forward to your responses. BLESSINGS. Doc

Sorry but the teachings of Paul do not contradict the teachings of Christ since they came directly from Christ himself. So the teachings of Paul are as much from God as the words of Christ are.

In answer to your next question; we are to follow all of Christ's teachings but as he tells us, the greatest commandment is love. And since love is the fulfillment of the law, then when we truly love, we will treat people the way Jesus tells us to.

So if you see contradictions in the bible then you are not reading it correctly. All you have to do is put scripture together and you will find the correct interpretation. It's not hard.

As to your 3rd question, Jesus didn't call ONE person to do all of His work. He was talking collectively to all His chosen. That's why he gives different gifts to different people because none of us embodies the full body of Christ. Therefore, God tells us to proclaim the word so that it reaches every nation. And He does that by using the whole body of Christ, not just one person.

There is no contradiction, Jesus is Lord. He preached primarily to the Jews (He came as a practicing Jew to fulfill the Old Covenant) and to lost people.
The church was not even born until the Book of Acts. The Epistles are God's instruction directly to His church as given through the Holy Spirit mostly through Paul.

Amen. So when we are reading Paul's letters we are also reading God's Word.

No question, the Bible never contradicts itself - what appears to at times be contradictions stems from a lack of understanding. That is obvious to any serious student of Scripture. But that wasn't my question, nor was it an answer to any of my questions. I will ask the questions differently.

In following God’s Word, which parts do YOU follow? If no one needs a teacher (by the way, that’s an idea that is contrary to Scripture - see Matthew 28:19-20; Acts 11:26; Acts 8:26-35; 1Timothy 3:2; 2Timothy 2:2; Ephesians 4:11; to cite just a few) then how do YOU decide which parts to follow?

Your original post stated, and I quote: “And that's why there are divisions between Christians as that passage and other passages like it explain. We are to follow God's word alone. All of those theologians can't all be right because they all disagree with each other and God is not divided.” So, for the sake of clarification, which part of “God’s word alone” do YOU follow? By your own admission, you don’t believe that Mark 16:15 applies to YOU. So, I am interested to know how it is you decide what is for YOU and what isn’t? Do the verses I quoted above on “teaching” apply to YOU?

I have always found it curios how folks are so quick to be critical of men and women who invest their entire lives to the study of biblical languages, manuscript evidence, biblical history, and theology - all that they might help others have a clearer understanding of the Truth of God. Interesting indeed.

I dare say, my dear sister in Christ, without these folks YOU WOULDN’T EVEN HAVE A BIBLE. In addition, without these dedicated servants of the Lord, most people today would have no idea how to understand the Bible, how to study and “rightly divide the word of truth” - 2Timothy 2:15. There would be no Bible Commentaries, no Concordances, no Reference Bibles, no Study Bibles, no Systematic Theologies, no Bible Dictionaries, no Bible Encyclopedias, no chapter and verse markings in any Bible to refer to, and no Bibles in the English language! Some food for thought. BLESSINGS. Doc

What are you angry at? Do you disagree with Jesus in MT. 23:9?

Wrong. I Said that God was talking to us COLLECTIVELY, which also includes me. I follow the gifts God gave me. Again, God gave us different gifts for different purposes. He tells ALL of us to pass along the gospel. He sends some of us to foreign countries, others he calls to remain where they are. So Mark 16:15 ABSOLUTELY applies to me as well as to all Christians. So you are distorting my words as much as you distort the words in the bible.

No man can travel the whole world by himself. So you are grossly distorting scripture by claiming that God called one man or every man to travel the world.Jesus wants His word to be spread to all nations and he needs MANY people to do it. I'm doing my part by proclaiming the gospel where God calls me to go. Others are doing their part by proclaiming the gospel where God calls them to go. And proclaiming the gospel on the INTERNET is ABSOLUTELY PROCLAIMING IT TO ALL NATIONS! So you are incorrect on this issue every way you look at it.

I am not a sola scriptura man (only scripture) but I am a prima scriptura kind of guy (scripture first and above all). The Word of God is God's truth and a standard by which all other words are judged.

Act 17:10 And the brethren immediately sent away Paul and Silas by night unto Berea: who coming thither went into the synagogue of the Jews.
Act 17:11 These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so.

The Word of God holds these Berean folks in high esteem because they searched the Word to verify the truth.

Do you happen to have any scripture that supports this?

Read my OP: MT. 23:9, "And you are not to be called teacher for you have ONE teacher and that's Christ."

1 Corinthians 3:3-9, "You are still worldly. For since there is jealousy and quarreling among you, are you not worldly? For when one says; "I folow Paul', and another, "I follow Apollos," are you not mere men? What, after all is Apollos? And what is Paul? Only servants through whom you came to believe." Read the rest of that verse to see that only God makes things grow.

Isaiah 2:22 "Stop trusting in man who has but a breath in his nostrils. Of what account is he?"

Psalm 146:3 "Do not put your trust in princes, in mortal men who cannot save. When their spirit departs, they return to the ground. On that very day their plans come to nothing."

Psalm 49:13, "This is the fate of those who trust in themselves, and of their followers who approve of their sayings. Like sheep they are destined for the grave, and death will feed on them."

The whole bible tells us that the infallible truth comes from God's word alone. The words of humans die when humans die; only God's Word lasts forever.

So as Paul explains, what causes divisions among people is when people want to follow humans, like Luther, Calvin, the pope, etc, not God. And as I explained in my OP, that's why there are so many different denominations and contradictory teachings in Christianity. But the sinful nature is always at work inside a Christian as Paul knew it would be. So people continue to ignore Paul and keep listening to theologians, pastors, and Christian writers. So the Christian church is more divided than ever before because of that.

But if one doesn't trust God's word alone, then he can't spot a false teacher if he stood right in front of him.

First of all, I am not angry at anything. However, I choose not to sit by when someone is critical of men who committed their entire lives to the service of Christ - while making remarks that are contrary to Scripture about teachers in general.

And your continued refusal to answer my questions regarding your divisive and unbiblical statements speaks volumes and tells me that there is no further good to be served by continuing a dialogue with you.

My prayer at this point is that others reading this thread will not buy into your biblically unfounded ideology. BLESSINGS. Doc

Another false statement. I answered your question more than once. It's not my fault if you ignore it. So since you have to make false statements to make a point, then you have no point. If you don't believe Jesus in MT. 23;9, then that's your problem, not mine.

2 Timothy 2:23, "Don't have anything to do with foolish and stupid arguments, because you know they produce quarrels. And the Lord's servant must not quarrel."

It's definitely a foolish and stupid argument for you to try to justify why Jesus is wrong in MT. 23:9-10. So you'll have to find some other sheep to devour because he believes Jesus since I won't throw pearls to those who trample on them.

If I may interject:

Joh 13:34 A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another.
Joh 13:35 By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another.

We can disagree and still remain friends after all we are family in Christ.

1 Corinthians 11:19, "No doubt there have to be differences among you to show which of you have God's approval." Those who have God's approval don't argue with His words; they simply believe them. Those who try to prove Jesus wrong are Christ's enemies. But we are called to love our enemies as well.

opion verses following

I believe that men simply give their opions. It is the indivual choice that determines what teaching they chose to follow. I`m sure that Paul taught Timothy many different things on the path.Spread the good news, is this not a form of teaching, enlighting one to the truth. I can say that so and so taught me about this or that, but my revelation and understanding comes from the Lord. Dose the hand work independent from the arm, the arm from the sholder, etc.Teaching is one thing, but REVELATION well that to me is about the truth, and what is the truth about,"JESUS CHRIST". Amen Yort (TROY):groupwave:

If that's what they want to do, that's fine. But they need to remember: Psalm 49:13 "This is the fate of those who trust in themselves, and of their followers who approve of their sayings. Like sheep they are destined for the grave and death will feed on them."

Only God's words last forever. The words of humans die when they die and their plans will come to nothing. So every time we stray from the Word of God, our words will come to nothing.

First of all, never in my entire lifetime have I ever made the statement, or even insinuated, that anything Jesus said is wrong! That is a blatant lie, is “bearing false witness” and is a straw dummy! Maybe you’d best go back and read what I have written.

As for the questions you have not answered from my previous posts, they are as follows:

“…which teachings of Jesus do we follow?”

“In following God’s Word, which parts do YOU follow?”

“If no one needs a teacher (by the way, that’s an idea that is contrary to Scripture - see Matthew 28:19-20; Acts 11:26; Acts 8:26-35; 1Timothy 3:2; 2Timothy 2:2; Ephesians 4:11; to cite just a few) then how do YOU decide which parts to follow?”

"So, I am interested to know how it is you decide what is for YOU and what isn’t?"

"Do the verses I quoted above on “teaching” apply to YOU?"

“So, for the sake of clarification, which part of “God’s word alone” do YOU follow?"

"So, I am interested to know how it is you decide what is for YOU and what isn’t?"

The fact is, I have cited seven questions that you haven’t answered. If you claim you have, then paste your answers from those previous posts under each question, that may help to eliminate any further confusion.

And by the way, I have made no false statements about anything and I am not attempting to quarrel with you. However, I will not let such utter nonsense go un-refuted - for the sake of others reading this thread. I am fully persuaded that nothing that is said will help someone with your attitude. I am not interested in changing your mind or heart - that is something God will have to do, if it is to be done at all. By the way, you might want to meditate on the "fruit of the Spirit" from Galatians 5:22-23. BLESSINGS. Doc
