Can anyone recommend an online course where you can learn sound bible doctrine? I have been confused for so long, trying and then losing focus, and going round in circles trying to understand things on my own.

From what I have read about different translations I am leaning towards using the King James translation and would be interested in finding a course based on that, with referral of course to the original Hebrew and Greek.

Thanks for any help.

If I may ask, what are you seeking to learn from a Bible doctrines course and would you consider traditional study formats instead of online learning? BLESSINGS. Doc

Dear Doc,

I would consider traditional study formats if I could find something really good. I am seeking to understand more about scripture generally (to remember the stories, God's promises, etc), to understand more about the Lord and to get to know Him through his Word and I mentioned the word doctrine because it seems that a sound understanding of doctrine is really important.

I have a study bible but I'm a bit wary of using it too much now as I don't really know much about the people who wrote it, and sometimes it takes over a bit so that you end up reading more about what the authors wrote than what's in the bible itself.

Thanks for replying to my post,

God bless,

Rachel

Rachel: You are most certainly welcome.

I have a couple more questions: What level of educational materials are you considering? I don't want to recommend something too elementary for you - it won't challenge you. Neither do I want it to be so theologically complex that it isn't enjoyable for you to study. Also, what kind of Study Bible are you now using?

I look forward to hearing from you. By the way, I will also make myself available to help you any way I can if you need additional insight as you study. BLESSINGS. Doc

Thanks Doc - it's really kind of you. I've only studied up to the age of 16/17 in education - but have managed university level studies okay before - it makes it more interesting. My current bible is the Life Application Study Bible.

In the past I did think of doing some kind of theology course, but there isn't anywhere near me. I almost bought a theology book by Wayne Grudem a while back because it looked so interesting but wasn't sure I knew enough about him and his views to take on board all that he writes.

Rachel: If you have settled on the King James Version as your primary study bible, "The King James Study Bible" by Nelson Publishers is a good place to start. Also, if looking into the original Biblical languages is also an interest, the "Key Word Study Bible" in the King James Version is also a very good tool. In addition, you will want to have a “Strong’s Exhaustive Concordance of The Bible” if you don’t already have one. This is an essential tool for serious Bible study.

For a good Systematic Theology, Charles Hodge has a 3-Volume set that is considered to be one of the best. It is actually a standard for theological studies in many seminaries across the U.S. Others to consider would be “The Portable Seminary” published by Bethany Publishing or “Systematic Theology, Revised” by Louis Berkhof, from Eerdmans Publishing.

Rachel, please understand, these are just recommendations for a good starting point. There are many other solid study resources available. I hope this helps. Should you need any additional help please let me know. BLESSINGS. Doc

I presume you are born again. John 3-5-Jesus teaching Nicodemus
Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.

I just want to recomend a book that I read -A lineage of Grace by Francine Rivers. This book has helped me to focus on the word of God , but has also helped me to understand the lineage of Christ. It inspired me to research the bible, this book is told in form of a story however all quotations are straight from the Hoy Bible.

I also bought a book called How to study the bible -by Robert M.West

He starts this book with the following inscription:
Readying Our hearts for Bible Study.

Hebrews 4; 12

For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.

The above verse already tells you that our Lord and God is the following:
Omnipotent-Omnicience and Omnipresent.
1) Almighty
2) Ever-Knowing
3) Alway present. Hallelujah

Timothy 3;16
All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:

I study the bible as Jesus leads me , i always pray before i read the bible and i find that the holy Spirit then teaches me just as Jesus taught Nicodemus.

Systematic Theology by Wayne Crudem is a tool that will not only teach how to study the bible but it will change your life forever. He is a true Christian and he dedicated this book to the Glory of God Psalm 115:1

This tool you need to read in conjunction with the Holy Bible which was written by divine inspiration.

I also read a book that Benny Hinn wrote- The Blood , it was a total eye-opener to biblical scripture and understanding the old Covenant that became new by Jesus dying on the cross at Calvary.

However you will have to read all the books as i mentioned in conjunction with the King James Life aplication study bible.

I trust and pray that God will lead you to an understanding of His Word, His Spirit and His Power.

Stay grounded in Christ,

Your sister in Christ.

Rachel,

Your desire to learn about the bible is good. The reply's to help you have also been excellent.

However at this point having read a little of your threads/posts.....I would suggest rather than pursue the 'biblical knowledge' you meet the Master.

You may have already met Jesus, I don't know, forgive me if I intrude....and you have already met Him. But that is first base. I would even say that such meeting is more important than biblical knowledge or doctrine.
