I have run across a board that appeared to be Christian, and might well be. Some of the reading is quite interesting, but for some reason... I feel that there is something not quite right. There is a slight flavor of cultism there... (I might be wrong)

So, if you don't mind, what can someone or anyone tell me about the Berean Church and mid-Acts dispensation ?? This is what they say they are....I am about to walk away because of this "gut" feeling.. which I am interpreting as the Holy Spirit speaking to me.

Another thing... although I properly sign in, and it shows that I am signed in, I still cannot post... (Another sign that perhaps I should not be there)

I have chosen to stop visiting the board because of this feeling.. and I do feel that it is the Holy Spirit ... but am curious as to what those two terms are.. I googled, but am totally in the dark.. (I'm old and sometimes have a problem grasping things.)

Being a new Christian is not so easy folks,,, but I will not take my eyes off the Lord.

Thanks for anything you may be able to "splain" to me.
I am now off to church,

This link should help ...

"Christians who believe the body of Christ did not begin until Paul was saved are referred to as Mid Acts Dispensationalists."

BEREAN DISPENSATIONAL HOME PAGE

You do well to walk away...I dont know what this group has done with the body of Christ...

Act 20:29 I know that after my departure fierce wolves will come in among you, not sparing the flock; and from among your own selves will arise men speaking twisted things, to draw away the disciples after them. Therefore be alert, remembering that for three years I did not cease night or day to admonish everyone with tears. And now I commend you to God and to the word of his grace, which is able to build you up and to give you the inheritance among all those who are sanctified.

1Co 2:1 And I, when I came to you, brothers, did not come proclaiming to you the testimony of God with lofty speech or wisdom. For I decided to know nothing among you except Jesus Christ and him crucified. And I was with you in weakness and in fear and much trembling, and my speech and my message were not in plausible words of wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power, that your faith might not rest in the wisdom of men but in the power of God.

2Co 11:1 I wish you would bear with me in a little foolishness. Do bear with me! For I feel a divine jealousy for you, since I betrothed you to one husband, to present you as a pure virgin to Christ. But I am afraid that as the serpent deceived Eve by his cunning, your thoughts will be led astray from a sincere and pure devotion to Christ.

If I could add to this...

if you keep getting the unction to stay clear of anything, it is best to listen to that unction.

There are several Berean groups, some primarily concerned with study, which is good, but if it becomes a 'god' inasmuch as it takes over and rules over the Spirit, by becoming a dead set of legalistic dogma's, then one needs to be set free from it's bondage. Study is good... don't read me wrong.... and please do study, but don't get caught in a lifeless theological trap.
There are also Berean denominations. They were originally Calvinist and went through divisions and now come in various packages.

It is a sad fact that we have too many differing denominations all proclaiming to be the ants-pants of God's redemption, and some of these Berean movements fit in this category.

They are mostly very 'conventional' and old-school, suffering somewhat from an over-Keswickism... meaning a stifling of the gifts of the Spirit and the manifestation of the gifts of the Spirit and therefore robbing souls of all that the Lord would otherwise give them.... and therefore, lack power with their testimony.

The dispensationalismistical approach (did you like that fancy word?) is just that. A fancy declaration of A piece of Scripture, which is used, once again as a dividing tool within the body of Christ.... and again, this is common and not just a dispensation.... problem, but I suppose is another prophecy unfolding in front of our eyes....

Any label that a person wants to wear and display, let alone uphold, besides Jesus Christ and Him crucified, is a division away from His truth, Likewise, if a Christian is a Christian, that is all they need to say, and if a person is a Christian then their lives will do a large amount of the talking with power and authority in Jesus Christ the Lord. A member of the Church is a Christian. It is the highest call in life, and the most noble and worthy name to be known by.... to add to it or change it or even not even refer to it shows a complete disregard to His mercy and grace and the Holiness of His blessed name.

So, once again, LindenLady, if you have strong unction it is because God is trying to tell you something.... listen to Him.

Bless you ....><>

Br. Bear

Thank you for your quick replies...

I asked a couple of questions in there, one asking about a Beth Moore Bible Study that I was considering doing independently and on my own... and also I asked about another study... "Experiencing God" By H. Blackaby.. and they said the Blackaby was Old Testament and that it would not be a good study for a new Christian.

One thing that raised a red flag is that I feel that learning what God says in the Old Testament is tantamount to understanding what God is saying in the New Testament. To make is simple.. I think it is like a Happy Meal without the Fries. To have a complete study, both are important.

I did manage to register there, but for just a short while. Then for some reason (could it be God? ), I could no longer post but it showed me logged in. The admin told me I should be able to post as I was logged in. But I could not. That REALLY stared to speak to me then. And yes, sometimes I need a rock to fall on my head for me to "get it".

So, I am now going to listen to my inner feelings, and just do what I feel God is leading me to do. Because I am a new Christian, and lived over 60 years outside of God's will, I really want to study the Bible, and I feel so hungry for all of it, not just certain parts and pieces. I want to read and understand the OT (at least try to) along with learning what the NT has to tell me.

Oh and Br. Bear,,, that is quite a word to try to wrap my tongue around much less this poor old brain of mine. :coocoo:

I personally consider the book "Experiencing God" By H. Blackaby to be one of the best books I ever read... go figure.

Good Morning,

Thank you. I am going to go forward with the "Experiencing God" course by Blackaby and the "Jesus, the one and only " by Beth Moore. I have both course books and have decided that this will be my major summer reading along with my regular devotionals of course.

In His Service,

Hello sister! greetings to you in Christ. It is true it is not easy being a new believer but it sure is exciting! New believers have something that alot of old believers need while the older believers have something the babes are growing into. The new are so beautifully zealous and filled with willingness for truth no matter what it means, some older believers need this again so they can throw all caution to God and pick up full truth with love again but the older have wisdom that has been tempered through many trials of love with our Lord.

I decided to write back to you on this because mid acts dispie is one of the worst hereises I have ever seen amoung believers and one of the most harmful to a believers life with the Lord and their ability to love and see truth. I do not think that many " christian" heresies are as dangerous as this one is ( although we know all lies are from the evil one) this is one of those lies that is so all consumming that it confuses all area of doctorine and makes it a web that is very hard to escape from once a person is decieved in it ( although God delivers from all lies to those who love Him)

I will give you some of the things they believe and why those things are so harmful to believers.

Firstly they believe that the only scriptures that speak to us as christians are from acts 28- pauls writtings. This means they believe that the old test., the gospels, the beginning of acts, the books of peter, john, james, jude, and rev after chapter 4 are all not for us as christians. The harm here is that it stripes us of the majority of the word of God, and in all cases they want to interpret paul without the rest of scripture without the rest of scripture to help our understanding.

Secondly they believe that the jews including Jesus and the 12 aposltes have a DIFFERNT gospel then Paul and under paul us. So they believe their are TWO gospels and that while we lisen to paul ( and not the Lord or the other aposltes) the jews had to listen to a differnt gospel which requires them to still be under the law instead of free in Christ. The big problems here are that we are told by paul and Jesus that there is no salvation but in His sacrifice by faith through grace. We are told that God used Jesus to tare down the wall the divided the jews and gentiles ( the law) and that in Christ He has made us all one new man in Christ. He has made us ONE body and there is ONE gospel and we are all made ONE by the same Spirit.Further Paul teaches that gentile believers are grafted into israel and those jews who did not believe were cut off of israel so that true israel is now the " israel of God" which is made of all believers jew and gentile. Everytime a jew or gentile comes to faith they are grafted on or back on to israel and that just because a jew is a physical jew does not mean he is actually " of israel" but that it must be by faith so that paul says that this israel of God, made of believers is called " all israel". Paul also said that we in CHrist are no longer seperated from the commonwealth of israel, the promises, the covenants and the word of God.Paul also said anyone with a differnet gospel then that which He preached was accursed- by their standards they would have to say the other aposltes and the Lord were cursed if they were to take their doctorine to the fullness.
2Cr 11:4 For if he that cometh preacheth another Jesus, whom we have not preached, or [if] ye receive another spirit, which ye have not received, or another gospel, which ye have not accepted, ye might well bear with [him].
Gal 1:6 I marvel that ye are so soon removed from him that called you into the grace of Christ unto another gospel: Gal 1:7 Which is not another; but there be some that trouble you, and would pervert the gospel of Christ.
Rom 4:16 Therefore [it is] of faith, that [it might be] by grace; to the end the promise might be sure to all the seed; not to that only which is of the law, but to that also which is of the faith of Abraham; who is the father of us all,
Eph 2:8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: [it is] the gift of God:
Eph 2:11 ¶ Wherefore remember, that ye [being] in time past Gentiles in the flesh, who are called Uncircumcision by that which is called the Circumcision in the flesh made by hands;Eph 2:12 That at that time ye were without Christ, being aliens from the commonwealth of Israel, and strangers from the covenants of promise, having no hope, and without God in the world: Eph 2:13 But now in Christ Jesus ye who sometimes were far off are made nigh by the blood of Christ. Eph 2:14 ¶ For he is our peace, who hath made both one, and hath broken down the middle wall of partition [between us]; Eph 2:15 Having abolished in his flesh the enmity, [even] the law of commandments [contained] in ordinances; for to make in himself of twain one new man, [so] making peace Eph 2:16 And that he might reconcile both unto God in one body by the cross, having slain the enmity thereby:Eph 2:17 And came and preached peace to you which were afar off, and to them that were nigh Eph 2:18 For through him we both have access by one Spirit unto the Father Eph 2:19 ¶ Now therefore ye are no more strangers and foreigners, but fellowcitizens with the saints, and of the household of God Eph 2:20 And are built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief corner [stone]; Eph 2:21 In whom all the building fitly framed together groweth unto an holy temple in the Lord: Eph 2:22 In whom ye also are builded together for an habitation of God through the Spirit
Rom 9:6 ¶ Not as though the word of God hath taken none effect. For they [are] not all Israel, which are of Israel: Rom 9:7 Neither, because they are the seed of Abraham, [are they] all children: but, In Isaac shall thy seed be called Rom 9:8 That is, They which are the children of the flesh, these [are] not the children of God: but the children of the promise are counted for the seed.
Gal 6:15 For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision availeth any thing, nor uncircumcision, but a new creature. Gal 6:16 ¶ And as many as walk according to this rule, peace [be] on them, and mercy, and upon the Israel of God.

Third, they say that the only thing that the church can get from God is salvation from hell. They say that all other work of the cross and all other promises are NOT for us at all but only for the jews and the physical nation of israel. This means that they say that as beleivers, we cannot trust God to protect us, deliver us, heal us, provide for us, help us etc.. The problems here are that Christ accomplished a finished work on the cross which not only was salvation from hell but also stripes to heal us and to carry our sorrows and burden and we have recieved promises in the word of God that declare that we are to trust God to provide and protect and deliver and heal etc.. but their doctorine stripes believers of all areas of promises to us which are the areas in which we walk in DAILY faith towards God in all things. Peter said that it is by the promises of God that we partake of the divine nature and this is part of how we are made into Christs image! The last time I spoke to a mid acts dispie ( about 3 weeks ago) she told me that God has never healed me because He does not do that for the church. That nothing that has ever seemed to be as such was from God. I am thankful to Him that I know her words to be lies because God has healed my family and I and other believers I know since the time I was saved and I have seen way too many miracles and provisions etc from our Lord to believe that but my Spirit is so saddened for her and these people that they cannot walk in faith in God and lean on Him for all things because of these lies.
2Pe 1:3 According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that [pertain] unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue: 2Pe 1:4 Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust
2Cr 1:20 For all the promises of God in him [are] yea, and in him Amen, unto the glory of God by us.
2Cr 7:1 ¶ Having therefore these promises, dearly beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God.
Gal 3:16 Now to Abraham and his seed were the promises made. He saith not, And to seeds, as of many; but as of one, And to thy seed, which is Christ.
Isa 53:5 But he [was] wounded for our transgressions, [he was] bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace [was] upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.
1Pe 2:24 Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed.

Fourthly when you hear them speak their is a great venom( noticably) for the 12 aposltes and all scripture related to them, they go on and on about how the aposltes did not love the blood of Christ and how they had no grace and they speak of peters weakness to not want the Lord crucified in his not understanding as being because peter hated the gospel of paul and the blood of christ that would come and none of this is true. Anyone who disagrees with them they just slash down in rudeness tellingyou that you cannot " rightly divide the word".

There are many other problems with their doctorine, in fact I have not seen one correct doctorine yet fromthem because this web is so all consuming that it casts off all true understanding but to get much deeper may not be helpful. I will put some of the scriptures for what I have said so you can see them if you do not yet know them clearly.

I hope this all helps, if you have any questions on this ask away. God bless sister and uphold you in all truth!

Faith4bride... thank you for confirming what I have already felt. I have already made the decision to walk away and not look back on that Mid dispie group. I did some reading over there and found so many discrepencies, that they insist are absolute.

When I mentioned the Exp. God by Blackaby course, they simply implied that I should not be bothered by it and perhaps should not take the course because it is designed for Jews and not Christians at all as it is about the OT.

Well excuse me, but I feel that as a child of God, every word in the Holy Bible is extremely important and therefore worth persueing and learning about.

Faith4Bride, I have not read 100% of your reply, but I did read the first few paragraphs when I felt the confirmation of my gut feeling. Thank You.
I will now go back and read your post in it's entirety.

God Bless You,

AMEN sister, God bless you for listening to the work of His Spirit in you and checking all things to not fall into a snare!

Hello to you LL

And firstly thank you for sharing this.
I hope you find TJ Forum a welcoming place and also one were Christ is spoken highly of, what other way could we speak of one who gave His life for sinners.

Even reading books we must have the disearnment of the Holy Spirit right up there inside us highlighting what we should not be taking on board.
Thank Jesus for the gift of the comforter.

I have come across some reading material and I must say it was only fit for the bin, but praise Jesus He lets us know it.

Let us always pray for a greater infilling of the Holy Spirit in our lives and a closer walk with the Lord Himself.

I hope you will stay around and keep on sharing with us, we are all wanting to glorify Jesus in every way possible.

I too was late at 49 years before the Lord touched my life, just over 5 years ago now, I'm still waiting on my husband being brought into God's Kingdom too but His timing is perfect and there is a reason only He knows.

Bereans

The Bereans gave me the twitchies too. There is a good deal on their site that doesn't make good Scriptural sense.

I suppose the only important question to ask is what significance does the "start date" for the body of Christ really have for anyone trying to pin one down?

It seems like a pretty pointless thing to focus on. It's not like there's some gap between Christ's manifest time on Earth and Paul's conversion where souls went unsaved because "The Church" hadn't started yet.:coocoo:

Never mistake sincerity for righteousness or even accuracy. It is sad that they mean so well yet seem to understand so little. But when a child brings you a flower stolen from a neighbor's garden, you correct his error rather than praising his sincere (if misguided) effort. If an adult does it, you demand repentance or cut him from your life because he's old enough to know better.

---

As for the idea of mid-Acts whateverism:

"In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God and the Word *was* God." John 1:1

If Christ was there from "the beginning" (as stated above by direct quote)and "the Lord changes not" (a frequent teaching in Scripture), then it follows that the Body of Christ is eternal and simply IS.

Now let's look for a signature:

The Body of Christ IS
We ARE
I AM

....hrm...keep it in the present tense and we get to the very Name of God.

And as a new Christian I'm sure you've learned that to stay in fellowship and really feel the presence of God, you have to choose to keep Him present in your life, mind, and heart. That's a "now" thing - not a "back in the beginning" or "someday in the future" thing.

---

We just play around in physical linear time because God designed the world to follow a progression in the physical. That progression actually centers at the Crucifixion-Resurrection and flows "backwards" and "forwards" across the full span of time from beginning (Alpha) to end (Omega).

The Bible makes *so* much more sense (especially the psalms of David, the writings of Daniel, and the prophecies of Isaiah) if you understand that. It's all about Him. It's His book. Every character and jot points to our Lord.

The Body of Christ begins with Him - not with a date on the calendar.

I don't guess I've ever heard of the Berean denomination. I do know a little about Bible study. I know that Paul visited the Bereans and preach the gospel. What set them apart is that after Paul left they studied the scriptures to see if what Paul told them was true. Now the New Testament had not been written, so they were studying the Old Testament. Kind of a contradiction.
Jesus Christ fulfilled all of the Old Testament prophecies about the coming Messiah. So the Old Testament is very valid. A pastor once said that the Bible was it's own best commentary. I think that its the Gospel of Matthew that has the most Old Testament references about the Messiah.
What is really interesting to me is the appearing of Christ is the Old Testament. (There's a word for it that I can't spell) You can tell when you see the Angel of the Lord or Man (capital letters are the distinction) in the text. A couple of examples are when Abramham was visited by three strangers and they told him Sarah would bear him a son and then, two of them went to get Lot before Sodom and Gommor was destroyed. Another is before the fall of Jerico and Christ appeared to Joshua.
I've studied Experencing God in a ladies class. I think it is a great study. It helped me come to realize that I had already given my life to Jesus. I thought there had to be more or some special feeling, but during a depression episode, I completely gave my life over to God. Because I was depressed, I didn't immediately feel my burdens lifted, but I had definately been broken and knew I could do nothing good on my own.
I hope you enjoy learning the Bible as much as I did. I've gotten bogged down with life and its hard for me to find time these days. Hopefully, I'll get back on track.

I also found myself being bogged down... and so I removed the bogging problem, and now am able to concentrate of allowing God to use me as His vessel.. He has given me a greeting card ministry for our church, plus now God has plunked smak dab in the dead center of my lap ... our church website to update and take care of.. YIKES !! I know nothing of doing a website, but I am learning.. and I know I have the Holy Spirit there to guide me.. But I sure wish he knew more HTML. LOL Now, our Intercessary Team leader has had to drop out at least temporarily.. and the rest of the team is lookin at me to take that position too... But I really do not feel like I am a mature enough Christian for that huge responsibility..

I love he Experiencing God course, and plan to take it again... as soon as it is offered....

In His Service..

LL
