Should Christians get HIV Tested ?

Come on lets be honest, some Christians are not virgins, some are sexually active and trying to stop.

We preach to the youths that are virgins " no sex till marriage "
To those that are born again virgins " Resist temptation say no to sex "

How many people are affected by HIV/AIDS?

The Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS) estimates that there are now 40 million people living with HIV or AIDS worldwide. Most of them do not know they carry HIV and may be spreading the virus to others. In the U.S., approximately one million people have HIV or AIDS, and 40,000 Americans become newly infected with HIV each year. According to the CDC, it is estimated that a quarter of all people with HIV in the U.S. do not know they are carrying the virus.

Since the beginning of the epidemic, AIDS has killed more than 25 million people worldwide, including more than 500,000 Americans. AIDS has replaced malaria and tuberculosis as the world's deadliest infectious disease among adults and is the fourth leading cause of death worldwide. Fifteen million children have been orphaned by the epidemic...

I never heard HIV in youth group, so that's why I ask " Should Christians be tested "

We don't talk about HIV, so I'm just wondering.

Also, should a test be taken before marriage if the other partner is not a virgin.

What's your views...should the church talk about about HIV and encourage testing.

Please note, discussing HIV in no way promotes sex, sad to say there are other ways to contact HIV.

Hello Sister,

First, before responding, what is a "born again virgin"?

I think it would behoove any responsible couple to both be tested for HIV as well as all other contractible STD's before marriage, even if both claim to have their sexual virginity. Virgins have nothing to hide if they truly are virgin and these tests are often free.

Concerning relationships where only one person claims to hold their virginity, I believe the virgin party should also take the test. This would be an act of love and will appease and comfort the non-virgin from potentially feeling like a "bad" or "dirty" person.

Since God has blessed us with a level of technology that allows us to know these things, we should do it. This is the responsible thing to do. Really, if you truly love someone, do you want to give them a permanent STD, with life changing implications, without them having full disclosure? To not get tested, is potentially inviting major regrets and future marital troubles.

Good topic Rizen, this should be discussed.

I believe Christians should be tested for HIV Aids.

We should keep in mind that AIDS can be contracted in several ways

so we are not to be excused.

To be tested ealier is very important esp. if someone knows what kind of

life the've been living, they might be born again/ new creation

but that doesnt mean they shouldn't be tested. If the results are positive

then they can believe God for deliverance.

There is always good news in the things of God,

There is Hope in this situation no matter how bad things

seems to be. He's Jehova Rapha our healer.

Yes ,we should all get tested, if we know we have had sexual partners before wedlock and unprotected sex.
I got tested for HIV and a wide range of other sexual transmitted diseases and thank God i came back all clear for all of them, im not ashamed to say i went and got tested, i did it not just for me but also for the man i marry.

God Bless and Much Love xoxoxoxox

Being a Christian doesn't mean that we are free from the world's suffering.. AIDS can transmit through many medium, and even at one time, HIV carriers even prick their own finger and leave the needle on seats in the cinema, hopefully innocent ppl can get their illness.. so it's better to make an annual checkup...

"Therefore, when you are in Christ, you are a New Creation;
the old has gone, the new is here and now!"
- 2 Corinthians 5:17

You are a new creation, the old has gone..

I use the term born again virgin, because when you accepted Christ into your life you became a whole new person, your past is behind you.

I know so many who wish they could turn back the hands of time. God has forgiven them but they seem not to be able to forgive themselves for their mistakes.

I try to tell them, if the bible says your a new creation the old has gone...then your a born again virgin. God is not holding anything over their heads.

Romans 8:1
Therefore there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.

The devil will use people to make those who had sex, feel not worthy to be the bride of Christ. But I'm saying if the bible says your a new creation embrace it because that old person who made all those mistakes are gone.

In short a born again virgin is one who had sex, but now lives in the freedom from condemnation, renewing their vows to the heavenly Father.

I want to Thank everyone for leaving comments.
Mounty I hope your statement will encourage others to talk more openly about being/getting tested, because its nothing to be ashame about.

Thank you for bringing this topic sister Rizen, it might be not a big issue in the western world. But where I am at now you hear the word “HIV/AIDS” in daily news, articles…. every hour and day.

Any dictionary will give you two definitions of virginity. The first definition is obvious. It doesn't need to be quoted. The second (and most important) definition is a lifestyle of voluntary abstinence from sexual intercourse.

In other words, when people switch from sexual promiscuity to sexual abstinence, they become virgins by definition.

Well Rizen1,

I did vote yes, because here in India you can get attacked by the virus in many ways:

1) In movie theaters, when you sit, sometimes needles poke you. After you get up, there will be a small note: "You have just been infected with HIV." And all needles are tested HIV positive. Can you believe this? Now people are very careful about this.

2) In hospitals, many hospitals in India are in a terrible condition. Some hospitals use the same needles over and over for the sake of injections. One day in the news, there was a report about a 11 year old boy who was infected by HIV, because an injection was given to him by an infected needle. Can you believe this?

But only Christian hospitals take good care, provide good hygiene and do things sincerely. While the other hospitals only mint money and they are not at all hygienic.

Just look at the condition in India.

This world is awful. I really wish Jesus comes even more quickly so that we can get out of here as quickly as possible.

God bless you.

The reason its not a big deal is because they are more concern about who is dating who in Hollywood.

I'm praying for Africa and India...

Abigya, my prayer is for the churches here to rise up and set an example.

Dear Richie.
I want to narrate an incident regarding to what you said.

Recently, one doctor has narrated a somewhat similar instance that happened to one of his patients .. A young girl, engaged and about to be married in a couple of months, was pricked while the movie was going on. The tag with the needle had the message

'Welcome to the World of HIV family'.

Though the doctors told her family that it takes about 6

months before the virus grows strong enough to start

damaging the system and a healthy victim could survive about 5-6 years, the girl died in 4 months, perhaps more because of the 'Shock thought'.

they are more concern about who is dating who in Hollywood.

As sister rizen1 said people are more concerned about the things in the film industry. I think this is a very serious issue and should be addressed by the church and the media.

I really pray for the churches and the ministries which are doing God's work, so that they can be an example to others.

When my fellow Moderator SLE, and brother in Jesus, and I were young, purity was fashionable. We knew and practiced a thing called "romance". This was a period when time was spent to pursue the love of 'one's' life. To get to know, to entertain, take out to dine, watch the movie, visiting the family etc.

Halcyon days.

As an older man I think it is a pity that such is not the norm today. Young folks do not appear to have the desire to 'romance' , to walk along the 'bridle path' and we have lost a great deal of pure joy and delight

The Muslim world gains ground today, in its care, in its control and preparation for marriage.

Christian values of my generation have been sacked by the freethinker, the modernist, the 'antichrist' 'antiGod' antiChristian thinking of our day.

Where is the 'daddy' in many of the young families today?

Interesting post 'risen one' and good response.

Forgive me if I am out of touch

I have not voted.
But I do feel everyone that feels a need to be tested should get tested.
We owe it to ourselves to do many things in life two of these things are.
Not to put ourselves in harms way.
And.
To protect ourselves ( and others ).
Yes anyone that feels there is a need should be tested.

Maybe there's an ambiguous quote in the bible we can use to answer this question.... or we could just rationalize.

If your pants came off in a non monogamous relationship (marriage) then you may need to be tested.
For the rest of the folks here there is no correct answer on that poll.

I have tested before even though I have never had any relationship outside my marriage. I am also ready to submit myself again and again to protect myself, my family and the society at large.
