I feel sad when I hear people say to those with Depression "Snap out of it!...Your faith isn't strong enough to get yourself out of it! etc, etc.
I believe that Depression can be a lack of a chemical in the brain. Just as a Diabetic takes insulin some suffering from Depression need medication. Thank God he gives us Doctors to heal the sick. It is then we can fall on our knees and thank our Father in Heaven for his loving mercy.

Sister, I won't tell anyone who has depression to "snap out of it" because I have suffered for at least 4 years with it. But I do know that God took my depression away when I asked Him to.

Ask and you will receive, seek and you will find ;)

i agree Granny, it can be a chemical imbalance, but also remember God can heal and fix any imbalance, and yes thank God for Doctors, i took medication for panic attacks ,and it has made the world of difference to my life. Telling someone to snap out of it is just a waste of words.

God Bless and Much Love All xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

I society today more so than people have been left to fend for themselves and have not been given tools to deal with parts of life they are expected to get involved with. It leaves us lost and scared to talk to others for fear of being mocked. It is a sad state. We come listless and lost. We don't eat right. So our bodies don't produce the chemicals we need to stay level and happy. If you people that are depressed when you talk to them focus on what others like about them and go from there let that start a better feeling about themselves. Perhaps eventually as they become strong they may get weened off their medication. ~~ a strong personal growth program always helps which includes prayer~~ God bless you all

Dear Paganmystic...My chemical imbalance is heredity and I will never be able to go off the medication. Yes!...I have tried several times when I felt the whole world was my oyster. After the medication was out of my system I was back to the 'black hole" feeling for no reason at all.
I am sure there are people out there who perhaps do without medication...but not my five sisters and I, my mother and back to her mother.
So you see ...God did answer my prayers. He told me about a Doctor who understands the problem.

You can't just tell someone who is suffering from depression to "SNAP out of it!" Didn't that person consider snapping out of it himself already? and if you say "Oh they tell me I gotta snap out of it", you'll be bossing yourself around and it'll even be harder on you. You'll hate your weakness.

It needs alot of healing, healing the inside of you, you need to learn new things that will lead you to change the way you think, when our thoughts change, our feelings change aswell.

Above all doctors, God is the greatest healer, even the brightest doctor can stand useless infront of a severe case, but God can achieve anything we can't.

Ask for God's help and start to learn about his plans for you, you'll be amazed. Silent all the voices around that cause nothing but hurt you even deeper, you need the right support system.

I'll be praying for you, that's for sure.
May God bless you and heal every wound.

It's true actually, when it approach you cannot back it off. i once had depression a few years back due to death of my best friend and stuffs. in the end i even tried suicide in the end.. but somehow God manage to save me in the end. so depression is actually a sickness that have no cure. to cure yourself you need to face the problem and of course wit His help. so it's not right to just use the remark, because you won't know if u have it or not...

Sorry, I am. I didn't mean to make it sound like I don't understand, I was one of the fortunate ones. With my depression linked to my health directly. For me learning about the meditation practises of the Buddhists was all I needed with the changes in my life habits. Many people I know are like your family. A friend nearly committed suicide because of it. He was missing a gene or a gene in him was messed up and so he was missing several neurotransmitters that would normally stop depression. He to will be on the medication for the rest of his life. Me and him use to have a great time getting into trouble(we were that young when he was diagnosed). Sorry, for rambling on. When I accepted the Lord I started praying for Steve a practice that hasn't stopped, I've alway wondered how he was doing and how his children ended up. They moved away when we were still young. I hope our Lord the comforter resides with you and your family God bless you all

In regards to the red, you do realize that any religion outside Christianity is from the devil, including Buddhism right brother? Its like saying Yoga is ok for believers, so long as you leave out the spiritual part. Its either good and from GOD or not, no middle ground.

hey guys there is a massive movement of people practicing christian meditation it was started by a benadictine monk called john main, he wanted to bring back a contemplative dimension to worship. i was in my local cathedral (yeah i know lucky git) the other day and saw a advert for it, i didnt take any notice of it, but now i can see that it might be good to mention it here. they have centres allover the world including wait for this over a hundred in australia. chad is 100% right all these "things" from other religions can be dangerous, and wont be no good for us keeping on the narrow path.
this group is called "the world community for christian meditation" it could be good for people with depression.

How completely contradictory. You say it's "bad", but yet you say it could be good for depression?

I'm sorry, but you folks need to wake up. There's nothing "good" about alter states of reality, an "awakening" of yourself to a higher presence or any form of meditation. Do you know how an evil spirit could take control of you if you "meditate" and let yourself go?

Be in control, like Jesus was. He prayed, that was his meditation. Even spending time alone with God could be meditation, but there's no reason to "practice" meditation. It's not from God, it's from evil.

Depression/Chemical Imbalance

For me learning about the meditation practises of the Buddhists was all I needed with the changes in my life habits.

To follow up on Chad's response - Did your learning about and using Buddhist meditation practices occur before or after you came to Christ?

I think that issue needs to be clarified.

sorry mate but this has nothing to do with buddism and its not contradictory, meditation and the thinking of budda would be bad because we know that he is a lie.
but to meditate is a state of mind, if we are christian in belief then to get rid of all mental clutter through meditation is to leave the path open for some clear prayer for jesus and god.

Meditation is such a broad word. I meditate when I'm in my garden singing hymms to the Lord or when I'm reading my Bible, or in prayer. One can not say that meditation is wrong, in order to meditate one must focus on something to meditate on (common sense). But what someone may choose to meditate 'on' could be wrong; it's wrong to meditate on something or someone outside the laws of God.

Sorry I forgot to add Scripture. Everyone should know by now I add Scripture with all my post(s).. I forgot who said it but someone said and I quote

Sorry I for got who that was from, but these are Scriptures on meditation, and there are A LOT more, but these are samples

Psa 1:2 But his delight is in the law of the LORD; and in his law doth he meditate day and night.

Psa 77:12 I will meditate also of all thy work, and talk of thy doings.

Psa 119:48 My hands also will I lift up unto thy commandments, which I have loved; and I will meditate in thy statutes.

Psa 119:148 Mine eyes prevent the night watches, that I might meditate in thy word.

1Ti 4:15 Meditate upon these things; give thyself wholly to them; that thy profiting may appear to all.

Please.. I'm just a humble man.. Seeking the same as we all are, to be better stewards for the Lord. Give God the Glory that truth can and will be searched and unveiled. Amen

Michael, I will say this as humble as I possibly can.

Not much can go over my head with regards to the Bible. Having read it from cover to cover a few times, and having some sort of knowledge from either personal experience, studies, schooling, or the testimonies of others. All I want is to know the truth as any man does. I believe knowledge is very important, yet many Christians are afraid to step outside of their traditional comfort zone.

Psa 119:66 Teach me good judgment and knowledge: for I have believed thy commandments.

Psa 25:5 Lead me in thy truth, and teach me: for thou art the God of my salvation; on thee do I wait all the day.
