"Yeah BUT..."

How many times have we heard someone get exited in a negative way & when corrected they reply with "yeah but"?

I was just talking with my fiancée & he was hyped up about a neighbor that yelled at him for starting his motorcycle... Long story short he was trying to justify his reason for getting angry at the neighbor & when I said "Ya know, since I've been reading my Bible & listening to Bible audio, I haven't heard anyone say "yeah but" after anything yet". "I mean, God said we can not murder... and there wasn't anyone in the crowd that said "yeah but... what if they do this first or that..." My fiancée humbled himself & knew then that the word of God puts a stamp of definite & he couldn't debate or argue the fact - GODS FACT...

The same happens with apologies.
It will start out as "I'm sorry for what happened, but........."

How fickle humanity is in trying to find justification for our actions and behaviors. When there is none, when looked through the eyes of God.

I see the same sort of thing here at TJ :
  • Yes, God / Jesus get all the glory, but.....
  • Yes, Jesus died once and for all sins, but...
  • Yes, you are saved by Grace, but....

This speaks more to our interaction between each other and even sometimes with God. Hummm...a lot of times with God. Our failure in accepting our own actions/behavior for what they are without excuse.

I'll not get into the specifics you identified above (2 & 3) and which has been going on for how long here at TJ brother??

When discussing scripture this would not apply. If it did apply in this instance. Then when you are presented an alternative scripture to what you posted above you would say what? "but........."

What you have identified is really speaking to interpretation, context and greater context discussions of the Word of God. This we can do without excuse, even though I do realize that some would do this to provide excuses for doing what they want to do or not doing what they should do according to scripture.

However, (another way of saying but.... :)) (Which by the way is a word I readily admit, I like to use :() it really would probably have more to do with how we respond to each other to make our points without regard of taking ownership for what we have said in previous postings. This is normally the result of not showing/forgetting to show the Love of Christ even when we agree to disagree on scriptural points of discussion. Those times are usually when we fall within the point being brought up by LK and not the subject of the discussions themselves.

I know a little of how you respond dear brother and another reason I love you so. You are deep and thoughtful........with that being said....what's your "but....." to what I've just said.

Just know I love you brother!

I have no but's. It is just a basic struggle between those who believe in grace alone and those who must hang on to some form of works, that I opined with three classic examples of grace or works. When the " dust has settled" all that remains is spiritual and heaven. God will ultimately decide but, for me, his salvation by grace alone is the only "fail-proof" design that can defeat an enemy that has no answer for the free gift of grace. And , I love you too!

Only Christ can justify what we do and what we speak. He knows the intentions of our heart. If we are not for Him, we are against Him. We can not wear our cloak of liberty to work maliciousness. Our labors will be exposed as false teaching and worldly rulers. As we live, move and breath, we do so unto God. We have been made ONE with Him, in Him , by Him, for Him. He is the King and I am His kid. Amen.
Knowing about Him and knowing Him is two different kinds of "knowing". One sits in faith and does nothing; one stands in faith and speaks the Word of God with power and authority and signs and wonders follow with them. Amen

"Every way of a man is right in his own eyes: but the LORD pondereth the hearts." Prov 21:2

"O LORD, I know that the way of man is not in himself: it is not in man that walketh to direct his steps." Jerm 10:23

In the NT we given a Way to go that was not so readily available in the OT:

"For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God." Rom 8:14

And is it saying that those who are not led by the Spirit of God are not sons of God? So who should quickly claim to be a son of God rather than a steward hoping to be changed to an heir?

When there is a disagreement over the meaning of scripture by two or more who claim to be believers perhaps one of more of them is missing the meaning of this verse as it applies to himself...

"Quench not the Spirit." I Thess 5:19

And therefore when a person is quenching rather than following the "lead" of the Spirit of God he is in error, is he not?

Who but God is able to always tell who is being led by the Spirit of God and who is not?

Please note that I am only presenting the problem that I see for consideration and prayer. I am not taking a side, unless it is the Lord's side...

"And John answered and said, Master, we saw one casting out devils in thy name; and we forbad him, because he followeth not with us.

And Jesus said unto him, Forbid him not: for he that is not against us is for us." Luke 9:49-50

My list of three "buts" are classic examples of where grace abides, there is always , for some, a "but" concerning works...I must have to do something! As far as I see it, it is either works or grace...there is no combination of both because there would be no Grace...Ephesians 2:8-9

Give God who knows all of the answers the glory, my friend. What do we know and what is it that we only believe? How do we know the difference?

I have been at TJ some 12 years, anyone can go back, then and still now I have always contended that God / Jesus gets ALL the glory....it is ALL of them and none of us! And , you best know the difference my friend and brother...just go back and see what the Lord said about Hot, Cold and Luke-warm!

:whistle

Are we still talking about "but...." or moved into another theological topic?
I mean there is nothing wrong with the topic, but it takes us right out of this threads subject into another.
Unless you really stretchhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh the point you're trying to make.

I'm at your service, if you need some shifting/creating of new thread etc.
Always with the Love of Christ!

Precisely! God allows us to know, but very often within ourselves we have a mixed message on some things because of preconceived notions that did not come from God. We need to remain open to His Spirit in order to know what we need to know when we need to know it. We don't need to know all of the answers to participate in a forum, but sometimes on a forum we do need to know and God will help us then if we are available and paying close attention.

If you look carefully you'll see that I've been here a little longer than you, but time on the forum isn't necessarily that important, is it? We, all of us, need to remember this:

"This is the day which the LORD hath made; we will rejoice and be glad in it." Psalm 118:24

What good does it do that we if we were "good" yesterday if are failing God now. On the other hand, are we lost forever because we sinned yesterday if we are fully repentant today?

Yes, it is this moment in which we must be hot. It is today that we must rejoice in the Lord always. It is this day that we must pray without ceasing. It is this day that we must seek 1st the kingdom of God and His righteousness. It is this day that we must seek His face.

Give God the glory this day!

Yes, it is this moment in which we must be hot.
Hot is what we all want and strive to be but it is a 24/7 proposition, which we often fail. It is a heart thing and, I believe, please correct me if I am wrong but, I believe his point was that there were no buts, it is better to be Cold than "Luke-Warm"!
My point was, there is no buts, he is either in you or he his not....hot is great and it is better to be cold than Luke-Warm.
Thank you for your insight...God Bless!

But, let's get back to the buts of the original thread. Tenure is meaningless, except for the fact, that I was just trying to express, have always tried to uphold the sovereignty of God. So, let's agree to this one thing, God get's all the glory and none from us.

Yes, it should all go to Him because it all (the glory) really does also come from Him as do all things that are really Good.
