"Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it.
45And because I tell you the truth, ye believe me not."
John;8:40-45
I believe if Jesus were here today,The Lord would have told the same thing to many 'Christians'.

Hello wisebuilder.

Obviously the question is, which Christians are you referring to?

I have it in my mind that when Jesus spoke these words He was addressing the religeous folks of that time, who milled around as Jesus proclaimed a different message to that of religeon....A message of Life and Hope, of Joy and Peace to be found only in Jesus.

It remains the same today. Jesus and the life changing and reception of the Gospel Message, without which society has 'no hope'.

I am glad I belong to Jesus. That is a thing of paramount importance, as we face the uncertainties of the 21st century world.

Hi, wisebuilder.
Regrettably I have to agree with you. Jesus was talking to the prominent religious people of his society. They believed they had God's favor and blessing and were saved as they were the direct seed of Abraham. (John 8:41) But Jesus showed God's favor was not a birth right and was not something to be taken for granted. (John 8:42) Just because someone goes to church, reads the Bible and claims to be religious; if they are living false to God's word as these Religious leaders were, they are basically liars and deceivers. Pretending to be one thing, when in actual fact they are another, just like Satan. (John 8:44) So if we allow ourselves to fall into the same religious trap as these did, Jesus would be talking about ourselves!!!

truth shall set you free.. i don't think many people realize pharisees were very religious and followed God's word. but they wanted to kill Jesus because they thought He was against God's word or simply against them.
it goes to show that the truth they needed was something else than what they had been learning so far.
ultimately they needed the Messiah Jesus as their savior but this was the truth they refused to believe.
which is why Jesus said the truth will make you free.

33They answered him, We be Abraham's seed, and were never in bondage to any man: how sayest thou, Ye shall be made free?

34Jesus answered them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whosoever committeth sin is the servant of sin.

35And the servant abideth not in the house for ever: but the Son abideth ever.

36If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed.

Only the truth that Jesus died for our sins will make free. free of condemnation and guilt and begin relationship with God.

Hello.

In wisebuilders question is the statement,

I do not think that wisebuilder is referring to the Pharisees.

Wisebuilder is extending the principle to 'many Christians'.

So which Christians are you referring to wisebuilder?

I'm sure that the Word of God coming from Jesus to these company of religious leaders pricked their hearts, so they were without excuse. The rejected the spirit of God, like so many, many others today. They could not or would not discern the spirit of truth, so they were the seed of satan.

So who made us judges of others? Why didn't anyone tell me? Sarcasm. Sorry. It really is not up to us to judge anyone. Our business is to learn to know our FATHER so we can become like HIM. We are to live in obedience to HIS instructions in LOVE. Nothing more
