Then David danced before the LORD with all [his] might; and David [was] wearing a linen ephod. So David and all the house of Israel brought up the ark of the LORD with shouting and with the sound of the trumpet. 2 Samuel 6:14-15 NKJV

You can imagine a thirteen-year-olds surprise when he opened his first Bible and discovered his name attached to many of the psalms. You can imagine his further surprise when he started reading his Bible cover to cover and discovered the saga of David’s life.

Granted, it was a mixed blessing. He smiled and cheered when he read the David and Goliath story and discovered he shared the name of a biblical hero. Then again, he winced and shook his head when he read the David and Bathsheba and Uriah story and realized David had broken half of the Ten Commandments (but sincerely repented some months later).

Mostly the thirteen-year-old loved discovering how exuberantly David loved to worship God. This was true all through David’s life—as a young man, on the run from Saul, as the triumphant king over Judah and Israel, and even into old age.

How good that you can thank the Lord God daily for His sovereignty (greatness), providence (guidance and goodness), holiness (glory), love (graciousness), and mystery (“God alone knows”). Do that every day with an uplifted heart full of joy and praise.

Prayer: Lord, You want me to worship You exuberantly. Stir my heart to do just that today.
