John 18 v 15-18

Simon Peter, and another one of Jesus' followers went along after Jesus. This follower knew the high priest, so he went with Jesus into the high priest's courtyard. But Peter waited outside near the door. The follower who knew the high priest came back outside, spoke to the girl at the door, and brought Peter inside. The girl at the door said to Peter, "Aren't you also one of that man's followers?"
Peter answered, "No, I am not!"
It was cold, so the servants and guards had built a fire and were standing around it, warming themselves. Peter also was standing with them, warming himself.

Peter answered, "No, I am not!"
Only earlier that day Peter had said he'd be willing to die for Jesus - denying Him to a girl was probably something he'd thought he'd not have to worry about.

It would be easy to put Peter down. But Peter spent 3 years day by day, face to face with Jesus Himself - his mistakes can teach us.
So, do we need to look again at our loyalty and devotion? Yes; daily, but there's more.

Did Peter fall when the soldiers came to arrest Jesus? No. Then he was ready to fight. Peter didn't have a problem producing big things. What pulled the rug from Peter's feet was much smaller than that. How could Peter stand strong in front of soldiers and fall to the innocence of a child?

Something we hear a lot about is the importance of consistent integrity: do we talk big with our words and live small with our lives? Do we walk the talk? Even further, do we see the 'trivial' things as important? Because if we don't that's where there's a hole in our armour. The place we don't guard is where we are weakest.

Father, protector, help me watch my mouth, mind and heart today. Please show to me areas where I've been slipping up and help me to overcome them. Help me love and follow You today. Amen
