Work it (3)
'Work willingly at whatever you do, as though ... for the Lord' Colossians 3:23
Do you ever notice how people make certain jobs appear more important than others? Perhaps you do the same? Think you'll be a 'nothing' or a 'nobody' until you're a world class footballer, top model, pop megastar or won the Nobel Peace Prize? Is the thought of working in Maccy D's or having a paper round to earn a bit of extra cash beneath you?
Perhaps you feel pressured by school and parents saying, 'You must aim higher!' Or would you really like to follow your passion for music, dance, or drama but are being told; 'It's a waste of time - that's not a proper job.'
Perhaps you think you need to get a God-type job, like worship leader, youth pastor, missionary or vicar, and you couldn't possibly follow your dream of working with computers? But imagine a world without fast food places, supermarkets, receptionists, theatres, postal workers ... someone needs to do all these jobs.
Our world is full of variety - that's what makes it good! It's not what you do that matters most to God, it's how you work at what you do. The Bible says, whatever you do, you should do it well - as though you were doing it for God Himself. God created us all with different gifts, talents and abilities. He wants you to do what you're good at, something you enjoy. So follow your dreams and 'work as for the Lord'.
