Watch your mouth!
'the tongue is a flame of fire.' JAMES 3:6
One day a girl visited her gran, the only person in the world she could really talk to. Gran always listened and gave the most amazing advice. The girl was upset because she'd been spreading rumours about all sorts of people in her class and had been found out. Nobody wanted to be her friend any more. 'How can I make things right?' she asked. Gran replied, 'Take that box of tissues and drop one on the doorstep of each person you've criticised.'
The girl grabbed the box and ran out to do it. Later that afternoon she came back saying, 'Is that all?' 'No,' said Gran. 'Now go, pick up them all up and bring them back to me.' The next day, the girl returned to her gran's house, but without a single tissue: 'The wind blew them all away,' she said. After a long silence her gran said, 'That's how it is with words; they're easily spoken, but you can never take them back again.' It was a lesson that the girl never forgot.
Words can cut deep scars on people's emotions. That's why God takes the sins of the tongue so seriously that He devotes an entire chapter of the Bible to the subject. Read James 3 and let it sink in to your heart. Remember, 'the tongue is a flame of fire' and you don't wanna get burnt!
