Values
'The tongue that brings healing is a tree of life, but a deceitful tongue crushes the spirit.' Proverbs 15:4
Maybe the toughest decisions you face during your teenage years are the ones involving your personal values eg what principles will you live you life by? Childhood means everybody else tells you what to think and how to act.
Adulthood means it's your call. Will you take on board the ideals of your parents? That might be a good thing; or it might not! Will you launch out on our own? No-one can live your life for you. You have to decide.
Values aren't just something we think about but stuff we do. Our values cause us to act in a certain way. God unpacks many values in the Bible, teaching us how He wants us to live. Here's just one of them:
'The tongue that brings healing is a tree of life, but a deceitful tongue crushes the spirit.' Do you ever think from one day to the next about the words you create with your tongue? Do you want your voice to be a voice of healing or a voice of destruction? The answer might seem obvious to you now but would it be obvious to someone on the receiving end of one of your rants! Don't just think about this verse today.
Take some time to write down the values you have about family, money, sex, relationships, friendships, education, work, church. Do your values match what God says? Listen to God's values and live them!
