'He has made everything appropriate in its time...' Ecclesiastes 3:11
Just raid your Mum's CD collection, you're bound to come across a song called, 'Life is a roller-coaster'. Well before you put it back, stop and marvel at the sheer wisdom of those Irish lyrics. Yes, Ronan, you're dead right; life can seem to be up one minute, down the next. The profound poetry of the lyrics!
Actually, sarcasm aside, the Bible says something similar, only a bit more eloquently. Elijah rode life's rollercoaster, one minute he's scaling the heights of God's almighty victories, the next he's emotionally hurtling to an all time low where he wants his life to be over.
Jesus felt the extremes of life's highs and lows too; at the start of one week the crowds are singing his praises, a few days later they're hanging him from a cross. Paul knew the big dipper was no match for life. One minute people are hailing him as some kind of God come down from the heavens, the next they're picking up sharp, dangerous objects to throw in his direction.
Every major figure in the Bible has their 'wind in the hair' high moment of victory, and also their moment of gut wrenching nose-dive towards the abyss. Maybe life is a rollercoaster after all.
