The power of passion (1)
'[My] life is worth nothing unless I use it for doing the work assigned me.' ACTS 20:24
Passion, isn't just the dodgy stuff people get carried away with in steamy moments of lurrrve! Actually, no; passion is something we can all do with a bit of. Passion energises you! Passion brings results. Passion keeps you from quitting. Passion is infectious.
Without passion, Alex Ferguson would have drawn his pension long before Cristiano Ronaldo was a twinkling in his Mum's eye. Without passion Winston Churchill would have bottled it long before D-Day. Without passion we lose our way, and end up dawdling through life aimlessly. So what are you passionate about? Do you hate it when somebody gets bullied? Maybe God is giving you a passion for justice. Do you love to get things done to the best of your ability? Maybe God is giving you passion for making lasting changes? Do you have a passion for pop star Rhianna? Maybe God is telling you to go take a cold shower!
You see, the thing is we need to channel our passions into the right things. It's so easy to use our passions for ourselves, but is that what God would want?
The early disciples could've used their new found celebrity to queue hop at The Ivy, or to bag themselves a place on 'I'm an apostle get me out of here!!', but instead they knew the best place for their passion was making Jesus Christ known. What about you? Where's your passion at?
