The door of blessing

'BLESSED IS THE MAN WHO...' PSALM 112:1

Psalm 112 is a description of what it means to live in God's blessings. The first verse is the door you walk through to get them.

'Blessed is the man who fears the Lord...' This sort of fear isn't about being scared, it's about trusting, honouring and obeying.' It goes on, 'who finds great delight in his commands,' that means taking pleasure in what God says, then doing it.

You can't do anything to earn God's love but you must obey Him to live in His blessings. So what's through the door? 'His children will be mighty in the land; the generation of the upright will be blessed. Wealth and riches are in his house, and his righteousness endures forever.

Even in darkness light dawns for the upright, for the gracious and compassionate and righteous man. Good will come to him who is generous and lends freely, who conducts his affairs with justice.

Surely he will never be shaken; a righteous man will be remembered forever. He will have no fear of bad news; his heart is steadfast, trusting in the Lord. His heart is secure, he will have no fear; in the end he will look in triumph on his foes. He has scattered abroad his gifts to the poor, his righteousness endures forever; his horn [name] will be lifted high in honour' (Psalm 112: 2-9 NIV). That's what it means to be blessed!
