Thank God it's Friday!
'...God...reconciled us to Himself through Jesus Christ...' 2 Corinthians 5:18
We see the golden arches of McDonald's and we think 'Big Mac'. We see a swoosh on a pair of trainers and think 'Nike': but what about the cross? What does that symbolize? A bling item we hang round our necks? A religious shape hung outside a church? Or a death penalty of its day? How can we make sense of this picture of Jesus hanging from a death penalty? Firstly, we now know where God is to be found; He's on a cross.
When we face raw suffering in a hurting world and we ask that million dollar question, 'where is God in all of this?' or our soul cries, 'where is God when I need Him most' the answer is hanging from the cross. Hanging from that same pain we are feeling.
Secondly, we see a crucified God who takes responsibility for our mess. An exchange is made as the ultimate price is paid for our ransom; blood money. In order to be restored to the Father, the Son stretches His arms across a large cross-beam, and we are able to walk across this bridge into the Father's arms.
Thirdly, we see God is staying with us to the very end of our wounded road. A miraculous exchange brings about change as we are released to grow into our God destinies. Thank Jesus today.
