Start a trend!
'he poured water into a bowl and began to wash the followers' feet' JOHN 13:5
Imagine... you're having a long weekend in London; you've done the museums, the shops and the sights, and you're finishing up with a tour of Buckingham Palace. You're halfway through the tour, being shown the royal bathroom, when the Queen walks in, rolls up her sleeves, runs some water in the bath, then makes you take off your shoes and socks and starts washing your feet. Then she dries them, and moves on to your sister, then your mum and dad! How weird would that be?! Not what you'd expect from the Queen of England at all, is it? Yet Jesus did exactly that to the disciples; He did what they really weren't expecting, He went first, He led the way; in spite of whom He was.
He shows us that we have to be willing to put aside our image, put aside people's expectations of us, put aside our own comfort and status and remember that first and foremost, we're here to serve God. Check out John 13:13-17. Jesus tells us to follow His example, and serve others.
So if you want to be blessed, don't focus on making spiritual speeches, or letting everyone know how holy you are and what amazing things you've done; instead, roll up your sleeves and get serving those around you. And don't wait for everyone else to start, someone needs to set the trend, so why not you?
