Spiders (5) - Sticks and stones
'THE SPIDER SKILLFULLY GRASPS WITH ITS HANDS, AND IS IN KINGS' PALACES.' PROVERBS 30:28
We've all heard the rhyme 'Sticks and stones may break my bones but names will never hurt me.' If you've been on the bad end of some hurtful words, you'll know just how wrong that is. What comes out of your mouth can be deadly.
Some tiny spiders have so much venom in them, they can kill a fully grown human. Your words may not be quite that deadly, but what comes out of your mouth can have a huge effect on your life and on others too. 'Words kill, words give life; they're either poison or fruit. You choose' (Proverbs 18:21 TM).
Words are like seeds; they produce fruit. Don't let your mouth be giving out rotten apples. So how can you make sure that what you say is good? By checking what's going in: if good stuff goes in, good will come out; if filth goes in, filth comes out. And how do you know what's good? By reading God's Word, the Bible.
If you're struggling with what you're saying, then follow Jesus' example. Know God's word, and speak it. See what Jesus said and did, and try and make that true for you; you might surprise yourself with the difference you see. 'The Devil left. And in his place, angels! Angels came and took care of Jesus' needs' (Matthew 4:11 TM). When you speak God's Word, you get all heaven on your side!
