Spiders (2) - Spinning protective prayers
'THE SPIDER SKILLFULLY GRASPS WITH ITS HANDS, AND IS IN KINGS' PALACES.' PROVERBS 30:28
When a spider lays eggs, it doesn't just lay them anywhere; it prepares a safe place for them. It spins a protective silk sack, then tucks them safely away. When a predator sneaks up to try and nick the babies, it gets in a tangled mess on the sticky fluids that line the silk. Mama spiders are totally committed to protecting their family.
So what's the meaning for us? Well firstly, there are predators out there and we need protection. Here's where you need imagination, think of every one of your prayers as sticky silk threads covering yourself and your family. Just like that spider's eggs are protected so are you; by the power of prayer.
When the Israelites saw a bunch of giants in the land God had promised them, they turned into a bunch of crumbly wimps wanting to run away - but not Caleb. He saw past the fear 'Don't be afraid of the people in that land! We will chew them up ... the Lord is with us' (Numbers 14:9 NCV). That's fighting talk! You see, he knew what he was fighting for; his future, his promised land; and knew it was worth it.
So, take a leaf out of Caleb's book and realise that every day you're battling for your future. Like Kanye West said 'Now that, that don't kill me, can only make me stronger...'
