Sleep when the wind blows
'Lazy hands make a man poor, but diligent hands bring wealth.' Proverbs 10:4
Years ago a farmer on the Atlantic coast found it really difficult to find workers. No-one wanted to work for him because of the dreadful storms that hit the area. The farmer interviewed yet another man, 'Are you a good farmhand?' This man replied, 'Well, I can sleep when the wind blows.'
The farmer didn't understand his answer, but was so desperate for workers, offered him the job. To his astonishment the guy accepted and worked really well. Then one night the farmer woke up to the sound of the wind howling. He jumped out of bed and went to the farmhand's room, 'Get up, Get up! A storms coming, tie things down before they blow away'. The man rolled over and firmly said, 'No Sir! I told you I can sleep when the wind blows.' Enraged the farmer ran out to see to the farm without his help.
To his amazement he discovered that all the haystacks had been covered, all the animals where locked away safely, everything was tied down, nothing could blow away. The farmer then understood what his hired farmhand had meant, and he returned to bed, to also sleep whilst the wind blew. When you work hard you are prepared and have nothing to fear. Work hard at reading your Bible. Then whatever life throws your way, you can 'sleep when the wind blows' too.
