Offer a helping hand (2)
''IF A MAN IS OVERTAKEN IN ANY TRESPASS...RESTORE SUCH A ONE IN A SPIRIT OF GENTLENESS.' GALATIANS 6:1
The word trespass comes from the word 'misstep,' which means to take a step in the wrong direction or to make a wrong choice. When you lose your footing or you slip; you didn't intend to fall but now it's happened and you need some help to get up again. That's what the Bible talks about when it says, 'Restore such a one in a spirit of gentleness.' In Greek the word 'restore' has two parts to its meaning:
1) Resetting a broken bone: Paul says, 'Christ makes us one body...connected to each other' (Romans 12:5 GWT). Family is important for your growth and development, and so is your spiritual family, because your spiritual family will last forever. By helping a brother or sister get back on track, you help to heal their pain, get their focus back on Jesus and His purpose for their lives, so they can become a vital, functioning part of the body of Christ again.
2) Removing a tumour: Cancerous tumours are life-threatening and spiritual tumours are soul-threatening. By removing one you will help save somebody and you'll obey the word. Listen: 'You obey the law of Christ when you offer each other a helping hand.' (Galatians 6:2 CEV). In God's army we aren't supposed to shoot our wounded. If the wounded can't find help in their own family, where are they going to find it?
