Objects or Equals?
'Above all...guard your heart' PROVERBS 4:23
These challenging words come from Jesus himself; in fact they were part of his most famous sermon, '...anyone who looks at a woman lustfully has already committed adultery with her in his heart' (Matthew 5:28 NIV). Now before all the girls switch off, it's not only lads who need to hear this. Every human being has wrong thought patterns that need laying at the foot of the cross. Jesus knew that lustful, pervy thoughts are at the root of human beings treating each other like objects rather than equals. And you know what, pretty much all of the world's problems boil down to that in one way or another.
The Bible directs us to '...take captive every thought...make it obedient to Christ' (2 Corinthians 10:5 NIV). It's saying that you need to Police your mind - put dirty thoughts under arrest before they lead you to do something you might regret. Instead of giving in to your daydreams fill your mind with God's Word and visions of the amazing adventures he has in store for you.
The bible also says 'Above all...guard your heart.' Policing your thoughts will also protect your emotions. Obsessing over someone God hasn't matched you with will only lead to heartache. When the time's right God will make sure you get introduced to the person he wants to use to bless your life spiritually, emotionally - and physically ;-) So don't rush ahead, choose today to be fully committed to God.
