New Year, New you!
'I no longer live but Christ lives in me' GALATIANS 2:20
It's your last chance to think up some New Year's resolutions! Have you ever wondered why we do that? Is it to impress friends? To try and be a better, nicer person? Because you think people expect you to? And do you ever actually manage to keep them all?!? How long do you think it'll be before you break any in 2009?
Hebrews 12 urges us to keep striving, while Romans 3:23 reminds us that we're all going to slip up; so why bother?! Which one do we pay attention to? Our word for today, Galatians 2:20, goes on to say that God loves you and gave Himself for you. Think about that for a minute - it's a pretty huge thing! Verse 21 says that we can never get to a point of supreme goodness by effort. So that means no matter how many resolutions we keep, we'll never reach perfection. But that is why Jesus died for you - so that unreachable goal is brought right to us.
So although resolutions aren't the be-all and end-all at New Year, if you remember how amazing it is that God gave Himself for us, and that we have Christ in us to help us, you might find it easier to do the right thing, for the right reasons, whatever your resolutions. And when you find it hard going, you know on whom you can call for help!
