Keep the good stuff
'We have this treasure from God, but we are like clay jars that hold the treasure...' 2 Corinthians 4:7
Chocolate! Practically everyone enjoys munching on a morsel of a tasty tantalizing treat of chocoliciousness! There was a massive fuss recently when Cadbury brought back the Wispa bar. Now they're everywhere, sitting tantalising shoppers from the shelves with their lovely purple wrapper with the red bubbly writing... OK this isn't a commercial break; you get the picture!
Anyway the point is, as soon as you're out of the shop with your Wispa or Flake or whatever, are you interested in the wrapper? Er, no; because it's what's inside that matters. You're after the chocolate!
That shiny wrapper is no longer of interest; its just rubbish! So if you were to throw the chocolate away and eat the wrapper; everyone would think you'd gone crazy right? After all, why throw away the best bit and leave yourself with the rubbish?
Madness! The wrapper is only attractive when it's got the chocolate inside. In a similar way, our lives become attractive to others, when they are filled with Jesus. We only find our true purpose, when we put Jesus at the centre of our lives. That's why Paul says, 'We have this treasure from God, but we are like clay jars that hold the treasure.' Treasure in clay pots; chocolate in plastic wrappers; same difference. Keep your ego in check. Paul says: 'We have this treasure,' he didn't say we are the treasure!
