It's NOT about YOU!
'Don't be selfish; don't try to impress others. Be humble, thinking of others as better than yourselves.' PHILIPPIANS 2:3
'Hey what about me?', 'I am SO much better than she is!', 'That's the last time I help him!' Ever said or thought something like that? If we're honest, every one of us has thought, said and even acted on words like that some time.
We are naturally selfish. 'It's all about ME, right!?' WRONG! We've heard today words said by Paul to the Church in Philippi telling us that God doesn't want us to be selfish...that's not His way...that's not what He created you to be!
'Why not? After all, being the centre of attention and having everyone run round after you doesn't seem a bad idea does it? In the book of James, chapter 3 verse 16, it says this, 'For wherever there is jealousy and selfish ambition, there you will find disorder and every kind of evil.' And in verse 15 it says that '...selfishness...is motivated by the devil.' WARNING! If you're thinking about being selfish today, THINK AGAIN!
God has let you know that living selfishly will bring every kind of evil your way; you don't want that for your life! More importantly God doesn't want that for your life! And he has promised to help you, '...when you are tempted, He will show you a way out...' (1 Corinthians 10:13 NLT). Talk to Him today, about things you find tough, ask him to kick out the selfish and fill you with His spirit instead!
