Integrity (1)
'The integrity of the upright will guide them...' Proverbs 11:3
Pizza Hut happy-hour, you know the score! You pay your pennies and from that moment on, it's all about you and how much double-crusted pepperoni and pineapple you can push through your face.
After all, waiters are for wimps; it's so much simpler cutting out the middle man and digging your own greedy little mitts into the feast.
If only life was a free-for-all-buffet where you could forget about everybody else, and reach your grubby little hands into what you wanted, no questions asked. The frightening thing is, for many of us, that's how we are.
We don't listen to the quiet kid at school because we're too busy making ourselves heard. We don't care whose feelings we tread on so long as we're feeling on top. Or we don't volunteer to help clean the church up because we think someone else will do it. Putting yourself first is not God's way.
Getting what you want and forgetting the rest of them maybe OK in Pizza Hut, but it's not a good way to live your life.
The Bible says the opposite in fact: '...Do not think of yourself more highly than you ought, but rather think of yourself with sober judgment...' (Romans 12:3 NIV). 'Humble yourselves, therefore, under God's mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time' (1 Peter 5:6 NIV). So, forget 'self-service' and start 'serving others.'
