A respected researcher says we've trained our brains 'to constantly flit around the universe of messages and information, seeking brief hits of excitement. Grazing ceaselessly, we never dig too deeply before moving on to the next distraction'.
As a member of the 21st century tech-generation you get more information in three days than your parents received in a whole month when they were your age. But when information overload starts to happen important things get forgotten in the battle for your attention.
How often do you find yourself apologising to people for really simple things you just never got round to doing because your mind was on something else? So, let's get down to it, when was the last time you enjoyed some relaxed, uninterrupted time without tech? When was the last time you walked in the park without your iPod, and listened to the birds instead? Can you remember?
The fact is you need time away from the never-ending waves of information so you can reflect and recharge. Jesus had places to go, people to minister to, disciples depending on Him; even so, 'Jesus...withdrew...into the wilderness, and prayed' (Luke 5:16).
Now, since '...the...servant is not greater than his master,' do you think you're above all that? Jesus said, '..."Come with me by yourselves to a quiet place and get some rest"' (Mark 6:31 NIV). Make it your number one priority today to take him up on that offer!
