In the red corner...
'...I will give it into your hand...' Joshua 8:18
Imagine squaring up to the school bully with Ricky Hatton two paces behind you. The mouthful of abuse old bully-pants screams your way, wouldn't faze you; you've got Ricky Hatton fighting your corner. The flexing of Mr. Bully's rather gigantic pecs wouldn't worry you; you've got Ricky backing you up. In fact, wouldn't you be tempted to make the first move; Ricky won't let you down. How brave would you be if Ricky Hatton had you covered. Well, duh! Don't you know that God has got you covered? Whatever battles you're facing at the mo, God is fighting your corner. That doesn't mean we go looking for trouble, that's not God's way, is it? Remember, Jesus prayed, 'Your will be done on earth as it is in Heaven'.
However, it does mean, when we know God is taking us out of our comfort zone to tackle some unjust bullying situation, we can trust that God, Himself, is backing us to the hilt. Before going into battle God said to Joshua: 'Stretch out the spear that is in your hand toward Ai, for I will give it into your hand.' Joshua kicked some butt. Not because he flashed his 'God card' everywhere he felt like it, but because God, Himself prompted him to fight this particular battle. Likewise, don't mouth it off in the name of Jesus, unless Jesus has prompted you.
