I stand corrected
'The Lord disciplines those He loves ...' Hebrews 12:6
Did you know God loves you? It's a fact - God truly does love you! Not just when you've got your posh togs on or been extra specially wonderful - right now, every minute of every day, just as you are - God loves you! The Bible is totally clear: 'Nothing can separate us from the love of God' (Romans 8:38-39).
But did you know that He also corrects you? 'Now hang on a minute, how can He do both?' you may ask, 'How can God truly love me and then go correcting me? Am I not good enough for him?'
Q1) Why will God tell us when we're 'out of line'? It's the child He loves that He disciplines. God is educating you: that's why you must never drop out. This trouble you're in isn't punishment, it's training. Why not embrace God's training so we can truly live? God is doing what is best for us, training us to live God's holy best.
Q2) What's in it for me? At the time, discipline isn't much fun. It always feels like it's going against the grain. Later, of course, it pays off handsomely, for it's the well-trained who find themselves mature in their relationship with God' (Hebrews 12:7-11 NLT).
Q3) And how does God discipline us? '"The people I love, I call to account-prod and correct and guide so that they'll live at their best. Up on your feet, then! About face! Run after God!' (Revelation 3:19).
