Healing for wounded relationships (1)
'HE HEALS THE BROKENHEARTED AND BINDS UP THEIR WOUNDS.' PSALM 147:3
It happens to people every day. Maybe it's happening to you right now? Not much hurts like broken promises and shattered trust. But you know, God is the Healer and that extends to relationships. Here's three things about how that healing works:
1) Healing of the heart is a process, not an event. Give it time. All the apologies in the world (and apologies are good; when they're for real) can't heal anyone overnight. Nobody can set up a schedule for emotional healing; 'OK, by next Thursday at 2 o'clock everything will be sorted.' Nope. In fact trying to rush it will only make it worse.
2) Not normal is normal, for now! Ever notice how if part of your body is bruised or sore you automatically protect it from more knocks and bumps? Right. It's the same when you're bruised deep inside. Oh yeah, the one who caused the pain may be doing business as usual but for the wounded, life feels way too vulnerable right now. A hurting person needs handling with extra care - like they have a label on saying 'FRAGILE - Handle With Care'.
3) Remember, healing will come, in time. God said, 'There is a time to cry and a time to laugh. There is a time to be sad and a time to dance. (Ecclesiastes 3:4 NCV). So if it's you that's hurting, or someone you love, trust that God is the Healer.
