Good pocket money
'he lets us be called His children' 1 JOHN 3:1
Someone said when talking about Jesus, "Imagine being God's son, I bet you get good pocket money." In the bible, John, Paul, Peter and of course Jesus tell us that WE are God's children. God is our dad. So does being God's kid mean good pocket money? In the old testament, only kings, prophets and 'special' people were given the gift of the Holy Spirit, so when Jesus said: "...If you then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him!'? (Luke 11:12-14 NIV) it would have blown the minds of those listening.
What a gift to get from your heavenly father! Paul tells the Christians in Ephesus, "All praise to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly realms because we are united with Christ' (Ephesians 1:3 NLT).
Every spiritual blessing, ok now that's serious pocket money! But most importantly God gives his kids, what every great father should... love: 'For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.' (Romans 8:38-39 NIV)
