'... the Spirit ... makes intercession for us ...' Romans 8:26
We don't have to learn or be taught how to talk to our friends. It just happens. A little 'hi' some time ago and a friendship was born. The more you chat, the more you learn each other's likes and dislikes, hopes and dreams. Your conversations become longer, more enjoyable, sometimes intense, even heartbreaking as you share disappointments and difficulties. You begin to trust and confide. You stop worrying when you disagree - it makes you, not breaks you. You mess up, it becomes easier to say sorry, to forgive.
When friendships keep growing like this you make not just friends but best friends! You know, that's all that prayer is - a friendship with God. You begin by saying, you keep on communicating and soon you discover that you have the bestest of best friends. Friends make conversation easy. You don't worry about what to say next. Sometimes friends know what you're going to say before you even say it!
God is the greatest at doing that: listen: 'The Holy Spirit prays for us with groanings that cannot be expressed in words. And the Father who knows all hearts knows what the Spirit is saying, for the Spirit pleads for us believers in harmony with God's own will.' God's Spirit in us speaks to God for us, making chatting away to Him the easiest thing in the world. Don't over complicate it or underestimate it. Discover your bestest best friend - pray!
