Friend or fake? (1)
'A man who has friends must himself be friendly ...' Proverbs 18:24
Are your friends falling like flies? Your homies heading away from you? There'll be a reason for it if they are. If you're not letting your mates know that you value their friendship, and value them, they may just get fed up, and wander off to find someone else. Have you ever had someone make friends with you, and you have a laugh, hang out together for a few weeks - until you've helped them finish that maths project, or they've finished all the levels on your new console game, or they've got an invite to the party that your brother's throwing - then suddenly, they don't seem interested in you anymore, and they disappear.
You feel used don't you? And if they started to hang out with you again, your first thought would be 'What do they want this time?' People need to know you're mates with them not just for what you can get out of it.
Friendship is a two way thing, and it works best when you both give and take. It's a bit like a see-saw at the kiddies playground. It's most fun when both kids put in some effort; if one refuses to push off, the other is left stranded in the sky, or if one jumps off without warning, the other will land with a bump. Think about why you like your mates, and what you give to the friendship; then go and big-up your bestie today.
