Facing the elements
'In every thing give thanks...' 1 Thessalonians 5:18
This time of year can be a real drag, can't it. You get up and leave the house in the morning... it's dark. You pack up to go home again later on in the afternoon... it's dark.
And it's cold. Yep, this is the time of year when your mood can hit rock bottom and before you know it every other word off your lips is some kind of moan, groan or complaint. Well just be careful, if you let a bit of mouldy weather get you down what will you do when real hardship comes along? Joseph was people-trafficked by his own shady brothers! He couldn't possibly have known that God would turn their actions inside out and establish him as Prime Minister. Joe just had to take each day as it came 'making the most of every opportunity...' (Ephesians 5:16 NIV).
And Joseph's not the only one, the Bible tells story after story where difficulty actually makes people stronger. Listen, there's a plan unfolding in your life, and it isn't affected by rain or snow or sleet or hail! Around this world there are some places that don't have a lot of God's kingdom happening, war zones, places of poverty, disaster sites.
God loves the people in those places as much as he loves you and he needs people prepared to face the environments, that He might be glorified. So see this winter as a practice run!
